Not too long ago, I had an argument with the Manager for Texaco. He said I had no right telling people they needed the SL. He had a new Montero Sport and he showed me the manual as proof that Mitsubishi's couldn't take more than an SL. His warranty was only 30,000 miles. I showed him the US manual recommending SL and 100,000 miles warranty.
His whole add campaign was based on people needing exactly what was in their manuals, be it CD, SF, etc. He had them all, made in Argentina. So did Esso and PDVSA. All insisting people put obsolete oils in their cars.
This happens in industrial equipment too. I once asked a manufacturer of industrial equipment why their oil recommendation was low and was told that if they require oils that are too expensive or not available everywhere it hurts sales.
quite interesting, widman ..I wonder why everyone seem to bypass it.
In 2005 ..I think the only SJ oil available here ..without some dust on it ..(again, I think) was a few MC oils in the 40-50 grade.
