WORLD CUP 2026 THREAD

Not anymore! 🤣

CR7
Croats playing out of their heads
What a game... :)
Just looking at Ronaldo changing face expressions was priceless.
The Croats played very well (I expected to lose much easier) but killed themselves by not knowing how to place themselves in attack and always had been at offside - so pity for professional players. 3 Croat goals taken down because of offside and yes—there were offsides.

1-1 now. Great match.

I’m not a soccer guy at all, but I’ve really enjoyed the World Cup. I’ve watched more soccer in the last couple of weeks than I have in my entire life.
Ive only watched soccer during WC’s. Started with 2014 and that’s because it’s on broadcast TV and during work hours.

The earlier goals taken down, no dispute.

The last one, I'm just not (wasn't) as sure. I just would really need to watch again and again, there was so much going on. The one Croat (15) was clearly offside. But the ball hit multiple players, both sides - all other Croats onside. BUTTT - the rules. And the tech is cool. This is a decent run down:

I know rules are rules but I find the offside rule to be ridiculous. Because one player happens to be a half inch out of place they don’t allow the goal? It has zero bearing on those goals. Silly rule 🙄

Maybe.......any "end goal" sport has such rules. Trying to think of one that doesn't.

I just get hung up on anything that includes intent or no intent. Then rules suddenly become subjective.

These rules will work great with humanoid soccer players of the future.

They should allow an extra player or two who can only play defense (can't cross the midfield line) and get rid of offside.

I worked at one place where they set up a TV and all matches were available. There was one match that was very well attended because the company had a lot of expat and temp workers from that country. Nobody got in trouble for watching for two hours as long as work was done.
