I have heard that Wolfs Head changed hands a while back. What do we know about this oil. I used to use this with my dad for years with good luck. Any thoughts or knowledge?

The current owner of the Wolf's Head brand is Amalie oil of Tampa, FL. The brand was purchased by Pennzoil in the mid/late nineties & than recently sold to Amalie.

Don't know too much about the availability of Wolf's Head as this was generally a regional NE United States type of brand during its heyday.

I've tried to kick the habit of doing this but sometimes the feeling overpowers me..........

The subject of Wolf's Head has been discussed before. Please use the SEARCH function and read old posts. I think you'll find plenty of info.

Sorry, that's as polite as I can get without having an aneurysm. Back to my meds now.

Thanks for the reply. And didnt mean to run up anyones blood pressure, but i did infact do a search and came up with little to no good hits. Maybe I am doing it wrong and smack my hands for doing such. Just adding my rebuttle. With the curerent merger maybe someone had some new highlights.

My local Carquest store stocks Wolf's Head 30W non-detergent oil that we use for our air compressors. They have had the stock forever, as it's not really in much demand except for air compressors, basically.

I did use some in a pinch as premix oil in an antique Lawn-Boy I was restoring. I figured it's probably the closest thing to the "MS" grade 30W oil they recommended. My shop is about 10 miles from civilization, and I didn't feel like running to Wal-Mart for 2-cycle oil at midnight just to make sure the engine fired up. Aside from smoking like a freight train, it ran great on it!

Bretfraz,

Have you been sniffing those car detail products too much lately that you are cranky? Just "funin" with ya.

Have you tried the search function lately? It sucks! Someone tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Looking over the Wolf's Head Site, I see that their HDEO 15W40, is a synthetic blend. Probably to meet the new Diesel standards. Wonder if there is a cost benefit over the big-name brands?

Under Shell ownership Wolf's Head was a bargain brand. I don't know what exactly Amalie is doing with the brand, but it wouldn't be high on my list of oils to find out more about

Amalie and Wolf's Head have the same mailing address:
1601 McCloskey Blvd., Tampa, FL 33611

Even the Wolf's Head marketing blurb is pretty uninspiring:

"The Wolf's Head product line reflects awareness of changing conditions and needs in automotive-product marketing and technology. To this end, Wolf's Head lubricants are made from quality base stocks and additives that are blended under the controlled formulation of Wolf's Head chemists and engineers, and are offered at competitive prices."

I think they said we make lubricants and sell them at market prices.

I once was talking with a bartender who told me he had a background in rebuilding engines and had gone to technical school for this. I asked him which motor oils he liked and said Wolf's Head was the best. He said it was made from Pennsylvania oil, which was somehow different than MidEastern oil. That's the only time I've ever heard of it and can't say anything to support or refute his opinion of it.
