WM Super tech vs Coastal Fleet

I myself like the Chevron, Mobil and Shell diesel oils.

I don't know a thing about Coastal, but I think I'd trust Supertech farther. It's likely just Mobil like the dino car oil is.

i like super tech and coastal...consider motorcraft 15-40 as well, it was only 11$ for 5 qts at walmart...conoco philips makes it ...els is right about super tech, odds are mobil makes it

I been reading up on the Coastal stuff and it looks pretty good vs the "who knows" ST stuff. Thoughts?

Actually the Walmart 15w40 is still a CI-4 grade oil and compares surprizingly well to the name brands, even more so considering how motor oil prices have jumped up recently.

Use it in good health.

Coastal in the black bottle use to be a good off brand oil as well, but since it went to CJ-4 grade who knows.

I've seen the Coastal in the new CJ-4 for a little over $7/gallon at my local AAP. I've always wanted to know how it performs. Perhaps you'd consider it and post up a UOA?

I think the ST is also a fine performer, for the cost. I wouldn't run either of these out very long without some UOA verification, but there's at least some "value" opportunity in these products.

Only down side is that (until the end of October) you can get Mobil Delvac 1300 for the about same price with the rebate. Hard to convince myself the Coastal is worth a try when Devlac is roughly the same cost.

I only change the oil once a year around Easter. Truck only goes 1000-2000 miles a year and it holds 12 gallons.

Right now it has about 11 gallons of WM oil in it and 12 bottles of STP.

From previous threads- this is an old truck with a worn engine. He's probably trying to raise the viscosity and anti-wear with some olefin copolymer and ZDDP. Either that or he had a lot of bottles laying around to get rid of. Chris? I wonder if you could safely go longer than a year oci? 1000-2000 miles is really low, and that's a lot of oil to buy and then to also get rid of the used oil at oil change time (Easter).

I got a bunch of the new white bottle CJ-4 Coastal for about $6/gal. CJ-4 is supposed to be better in many ways than CI-4. I would simply buy one or the other based on lowest price. Not sure that either one is head and shoulders above the other in quality. It would be great if someone would run UOA on this newer coastal to see if it's any good.

If it's CJ4 it should be fine...that new formulation was supposed to be a very stringent one with regards to the tests the oils had to go through to meet it. I, myself have a sample of Delo 400 LE coming within the next little while that I can compare to the CI4+ Delo I regularly use.

Ya 1 bottle per gallon or so. I found it on sale at the local dollar store. And ya I added it to get some Zinc into the lube.

The UOA always comes back as still servicible oil. But I figgure a year is plenty long. Would be bummed to do damage to the engine by not changing the oil. I can't afford to rebuild it if It gets damaged somehow so $100 worth of oil is worth it to me.

As for disposing of the old oil the state reciently made us get a used oil barrel at work so I just dump it in that.
