WIX or PureOne?

Wix or in my case Napa Gold (see below) all the way. I was not 100% satisfied at the Pure One. I pulled it out the box and lot of particles from manufacturing still on there. The Napa Gold(Wix) I bought was cleaner and just looked better despite both not coming in a wrapper. This is the 1s wrapper-less filter I have used having been using stock Honda A02 filters up to now on a 2006 J30A5 V6 with just over 36k on the odometer.

Wix from our site sponsor are on my Civic because Amsoil does not make one for that appliction, my other two cars have those new Amsoil filters. I'm willing to pay a bit more because I keep cars a long time and do as much maintenance as I can. On the Civic I was using the PureOne's but after two that had burr's on the threads I quit. That may not be typical but in your oil system, once is enough.

Just a disclaimer to my above post. With the exception of the Toyo Roki filter I used on my last OCI, I have used nothing but FRAM OEM.

I have not used the NAPA Gold that I have in my possession for my next oil change, nor have I used a Pure One. I am simply speaking from what I see in terms of workmanship in the box and to some extent its reputation for quality from this site as well as one or two others.

I really hope this filter works better then the Toyo Roki in terms of synergy. The S2k filter made the car feel heavier however that filter was slightly over-sized, if you want to call it that.

In terms of actual usage, I have no first hand knowledge however I will, hopefully this weekend, be able to tell you how this heralded Napa Gold 1356 will work. It's about the same or similar size to the OEM so that's could be more promising then the S2k which was slightly bigger as well as not made for the Accord, per se.

My experience with WIX/NAPA has not been good on multiple occasions. After the cars sat for 2 hours after running, I'd get the engine rattle when I started. This happened on 03 and 06 Ford CV Sports using 5W20 and 5W30 MC synthetic blends. Motorcraft filters do not allow this to happen.

I just spoke to a car care aware friend from MI and he stated to stay away from NAPA. Now I'm really confused. Should I return the NG filter and stick with honda A02 stock? The price difference is not much, maybe less then a dollar. I just read the above post and am wondering now if Napa Gold is really that good.

Anyone have a spare Filtech Honda filter they can lend me?

Thanks.

The Napa is a good filter; use it.

Yeah but now I am wondering if its worth it if the difference is only less then a dollar. Lasttime I did it(S2k Toyo Roki), the car didn't zoom off the line the same. Man, I dunno...I might just get the trusty but maligned Honda A02

Don't sweat the Napa purchase. Well-built filter with good filtration. And not that I doubt you, but I've never had a filter change how powerful my cars felt. Could be just a placebo?

If I am not mistaken, the A02 is made by Honeywell (a.k.a. Fram). Why, for cripes sake, would you consider ditching the Napa for a Fram? Moreover, why would you pay dealer prices for a Fram? That's like a double kick in the wallet. And what does zooming off the line have to do with the oil filter?

The Napa is a better built filter than the Fram ever will be. Put it on and drive.

You're kidding us, right?

If you're serious, you rely WAY too much on the "seat of your pants", for how you judge performance.

Ok fellas, I am going with the status quo which is what I bought, the NAPA Gold. It's just that since I am using a brand new oil for my car, I didn't want to use a brand new filter as well and have the car deal with two new things all at once especially if there are any reservations about using either. Maybe the FRAM is cheaply made but somehow performs better. You gotta understand, these Hondas are so super sensitive to everything...

For the record I think the Toyo Roki filters are superb... but I've been considering Wix or PureONE as a replacement since the Toyo's run me $6/filter.

Just installed my first Napa Gold or non-Honda oil filter for that matter, on my J30A5 and I tell ya, it's like Night and Day.. it runs like the dickens in all gears with this filter + CP Super All Season Synthetic Blend. I feel like I'm in Six Flags Astroworld for the first time with wads of 100 dollar bills to go to town on. WOW. This is an amazing feeling!

Is that also the first time you used that oil? Wondering if the oil is responsible for the improvement you seem to feel instead of the filter because I dont see how an oil filter could make it feel that much better.

Well, glad it worked out for you. That's about all I can possibly say.

A filter is not going to change your driving experience... come on guys. You're smarter than this!!

I know. I find it extremely hard to believe the filter changed anything that much. I think that it has more to do with driver perception. But hey, if it makes 06VtecV6 happy, then I'm glad it worked out for him. The best part is that the Napa is probably 10x the filter the Honda is.

Ohh, the GY Gemini lube place put some ---- house brand instead of the A02 I brought them along with the oil during my previous oil change. Only reason I found out is today I changed my oil+filter myself for an oil change that was due! Surprise!!
