I’ve always been a Napa Gold/Wix guy for most oil filters unless using OEM.

I haven’t had any problems with Wix per se, but all the recent quality complaints have me wondering…

I recently purchased a 2004 Chevy 1 ton with the big block.

What oil filter would YOU run?

oop, sorry i cannot read.

Right now the Premium Guard based filters are returning the best results. look up advance auto parts, type and type in 84099. best to order online and use code SPERKS15 for 15% off. or if you like orileys, autozone or Napa, the house brands are premium guards now. look at Carquest Premium for AAP, Microgard Select for Orileys, STP XL for AZ, and Napa house brand filters for napa.

I’m late to the party as usual.

Are most all Napa Gold filters made by Premium Guard or whatever the parent company is now?

Maybe I’ve gotten old stock lately. I knew Wix was bought out, but I thought Napa Golds were still Wix.

Yes, Napa Gold spin on now made by Premium Guard. As for Wix filters, in my observation of anecdotes, the ones I've seen with issues are made in Mexico, not the US. Of the PG and PG made filters, Napa Gold the least value of them all. AAP Carquest Blue/Prem, generally speaking the best value. That even though the price recently increased ~$10. 15% off on line code always available.

I'm on my 3rd 8.1 motor. Like all the rest of my cars, I just use whatever I have on hand, I never use anything specific. Right now I bought a case of Frams white box and they seem to be working just fine.

Thanks for the opinions & advice.

I had an O'Reilly $5 coupon, so I got a Micro Guard Select for $4.99.

Had to drive by Carquest today anyway, so I ordered two of the CQ Premiums online & picked them up for $8.49 ea.

Going to try a run of Valvoline PBE 5w-40 to see if that cuts down on consumption a little. I've tried a few different 5w-30s so far, and it consumes more than I'd like, even for a BBC.

I've never been around an 8.1 L that didn't consume a fair bit of oil. Most were in the quart per thousand range or more, some even a quart every 500. Granted they were all working trucks hauling heavy loads, or in RV applications. But the PCV in the intake valley seems to draw a fair bet of oil into the engine where it's consumed. Most I was around lived on 15w40 from the bulk tank.
