went to Napa tonight and asked for a Wix fuel filter for the galant...they had two listed, both supposedly Wix. The PN is 23502. Nowhere does it say Wix, but instead shows "Affinia" out of Gastonia, NC.
are they just the packaging people?
Is this really a wix?

Yes, it's a Wix.

thanks!
both choices were wix and the Napa guy said the cheaper one "is the same thing"

uhh, yeah, sure.

I bought a wix air filter for the f150 on rockauto.

The wix air filter was orange, I thought it was a fram!

Then I bought a wix fuel filter at napa, I opened it up for it to say "made in israel" on the side of it.

The napa guy probably is right. I like the wix oil filters, but everything else seems to be outsourced.

Not long ago, Dana (the former owner of wix) sold off their aftermarket parts divisions. Affinia is the new parent company of Wix.

Also fuel filters have been outsourced for quite a while. Just about all of them are either made in either Isreal or China regardless of brand.

The one you got is the NAPA Silver (WIX Protec), which is WIX's cheaper filter line.

BTW, I can't say for sure about the fuel filters, but the oil and air filters are definitely NOT the same between the Silver and Gold lines.

I bought a Purolater fuel filter for my car. It said made in China. So, I returned it since I've had a bunch of Chinese made fuel filters leak at the seams over the years. Then I bought a Wix filter. It too was made in China and looked identical to the Purolator. Can't win them all. Guess I'll have to use it and add that fire extinguisher to the car.

BTW, the Wix and Purolator fuel filters, even though sourced overseas, looked and felt high quality. This is way better then the quality of the fuel filters from a few years ago. I hope that name brand reputation is keeping better quality control levels in those communist prison and orphan labor camps.

yeah, i have a Purolator in her now...might not even need a new one, 1k on the new one, but new "varnished inside" tank installed...figures it doesn't hurt...if i don't break anything installing it.
