Wix filters- I think it solved my start up ticking?

I switched to wix oil filters awhile back. I noticed a definite improvement on my wife's 3.4 liter V-6 with the start up clatter over the other oil filters I have used in the past. Is this all in my head or did I get the results due the the Wix filter construction?

I experienced that same thing when I switched from a Mobil 1 filter to an Amsoil or Motorcraft filter on my 2000 Taurus. It probably has something to do with filter design, either greater partial pressures due to filter media or the bypass valve. It's not in your head. Certain filters work better on certain cars than others--just like spark plugs.

I have been planning to switch to Wix on my 11 year old Saturn for the upcoming winter. I got all kinds of startup racket with the Advance Auto Parts filter (Purolator built) I had in over last winter. I think it might have been a bad one.

I notice that the Wix bypass valve opens up at a much lower pressure than purolators (which seem rather high in most cases). I figure that maybe the oil just couldn't get through the purolator filter because of the cold, yet the bypass wouldn't open.

The silicone ADB on the Wix might hold more oil in the filter overnight, as well.

kanling,

If you have a real pressure gauge you should be able to tell if your filter has enough restistance to cause you any issues ..or at least compare between filters.

the Mobil 1 filter on my 99 Solara did the same thing, ticked for a second or so on startup, and the oil light stayed on a little longer. Switched to Wix, no ticking, oil light goes out much quicker.

Well I just swiched to Wix filters for my 98' Camry. Now I have a short ticking sound at start-up. Didn't have it before with Purolators ie: Plus's, Pure One's, or even Toyota OEM.

Not sure why Wix is giving me this ticking sound, but I don't like it.

I have the start up tick with cheaper Champion built filters on my 3.1 (valuecraft, supertech) but not on most of the other filters I've had on it like the Frams or the other Champions like STP or ACDelco. Wix had that noise every now and then, but the problem I had with Napa Gold and Wix was seepage.

I have a similar story regarding the Wix 51356...

I'll start by saying I swear by Wix.

I purchased four filters... two came out to be of the newer black paint job, two of the older white paint job. The white ones where NOT Dana btw.

Application is my 05 Odyssey V6.

First dump of the factory fill and I went with the black... no problems for 3K.... next change went with the white one... problems.. start up noise on COLD START for 30-60 seconds, it was subtle, but when it went away, you knew it was there.

I was able to obtain a case of the original Honda Flitech filters, so at 9K, I dumped the oil and switched to the Flitech and have absolutely no start up noise.

I know the ADBV is working on the Wix cause when I pulled the Wix there was plenty of oil everywhere. ( the van filter local and its 5w-20 is a very messy experience, no matter how careful you are )

I'm curious to try another black or even the white one, but I have enough Honda filters for awhile now and I don't want to hear that noise again on startup.
