Wix False Avertising ???

I bought 3 Wix spin-on oil filter 51347 from O'Reilly yesterday using the $5 off $5 coupons.


Picture of the filter on Wix website clearly shows that the ADBV is red (most likely silicon), but the actual filter is black nitrate.

Contacted Wix last night and waiting for their respond, probably will receive respond on Monday.
 
So you bought the filters anyway even though they were not what you wanted, or more accurately, what you believe Wix misrepresented them as being?
 
This Wix filter purchase is my first ever, I saw many positive reviews for Wix oil filters. This Wix 51347 is a long version of the filter that can fit Honda S2000, everything checked out okay and seeing the red silicon ADBV in a Wix picture is a bonus.

Bottom line: Whatever is currently available for sale should be exactly presented on company website, more or better in actual product is okay but should not be less or worse.

Think about this: In your state/area you have premium 93 octane gasoline available at some stations and your car needs premium, the gas station display 93 Octane but you actually get 91 Octane. It's still premium gas(we only have 91 in CA) but it's less than advertised, are you happy with it ?
 
Are the filters you purchased painted white or black? The white painted ones are when the filter has a low sales volume and then when sales pick up they start painting them black.

I'd think that your beef would be with O'Reilly and not Wix, as they are the ones that may have misrepresented what they were selling.
 
Something is amiss here, as the older white version NAPA Gold shows a silicon valve also. NAPA filters changed to black paint several years ago.

Looking at the application list for this filter (Ford Pinto, misc. ag and construction equipment), I bet that WIX will answer that this is very old "new old stock". What is the date code??

This happens on occasion on rarely used stock, so you are being an informed consumer by investigating. But, when you choose a filter designed for a Ford Pinto to put on your car, you also need to be aware of possible consequences.

Return it and request new filters or a refund.

Wix makes no claims of ADBV material on the website. Specs matter more than stock photos. Every website is going to state somewhere that photos may not be representative of actual product. It would be a monumental undertaking to change every image every time there was a slight design change.
 
Wix actually has a few filters that come with the nitrile ADBV; cannot recall each application, but they do exist. I noticed this once on a motorcycle I was installing a Wix onto.

I offer some insight here; take it or leave it:
1) be prepared for a generic answer for your efforts to contact Wix; their customer service is generally poor IMO
2) understand that for them to warrant anything, you'd first have to show some type of failure of the existing product based upon OEM and aftermarket engineering criteria, and not your "want" for a silicone ADBV.
3) is sucks to get a product other that what you were counting on, but the filters will probabaly still work fine, and you'll be more aware to check before purchase the next time.
4) I'd say the cash back you got outweighs the mental inconvenience of the nitrile v. silicone topic
5) you can probably return them unused at the retailer or exchange for some other filter you'd need.
 
Just because it has the number in the picture doesn't mean it wasn't put there afterwards. If the specs don't say what it is then you can't tell what you are going to get.

In Irvine, CA, a nitrile adbv is plenty good. Only cold temperatures need the silicon.
 
The current filter I have on S2000 is the lowly Fram Extra Guard PH2849A which is the same size as Wix 51347 and about 2" longer than OEM PCX-004.

I don't have problem with Fram nitrile ADBV even the filter orientation is almost horizontal at near bottom of the engine, and I don't think I will have problem with Wix nitrile ADBV either.

The problem I have with Wix 51347 is their picture until yesterday shows silicon ADBV, we all know that silicon ADBV is better than nitrile ADBV for extended OCI, most if not all mid-range to high-end filters have silicon ADBV.

The problem I have with Wix is false advertising. Wix website should show the actual selling product, not silicon ADBV and actual product has lesser quality.

The new picture on Wix site now shows black nitrile ADBV for 51347

Where does Wix say it has a silicone ADBV?
 
Some of the Napa Silver show a reddish ADBV on the website when you look them up, but are black nitrile when you purchase. I don't care they work wonderfully and I wasn't really expecting a silicone ADBV in a 3 dollar filter.

The same applies to the 51358 specified for my G.
