Well it's happened, I've caught the BITOG bug. I really like WIX filters and decided today to travel to NAPA and CARQUEST to examine their filters. I can now confirm that the WIX 51334, CARQUEST Premium Blue 85334, and NAPA Gold 1334 are identical. Bypass in the threaded end, silicone ADBV, same high quality construction. And yes, I did purchase all three so I can marvel over them for some time.

WIX/O'Reilly:$5.49
CarQuest: $7.88
NAPA Gold: $6.79

Interesting, a $2.39/43.5% difference from low to high price. A partial explanation might be that the NAPA and CarQuest seemed to have more of an "independently-owned" feel than the O'Reilly did, analogous to the small business vs. Wal-Mart scenario. Hence, I assume O'Reilly is more able to offer competitive pricing.

O'Reilly also has many more stores in the local area ... NAPA and CarQuest only one each.

Thank you for the clarification. I was sort of thinking that Carquests blue/gold filter was supposed to be a different line of filter than the regular Carquest. To think I was going to go down there and ask for the Blue/Gold Carquest next time around...

I've read on other posts that not all WIX/NAPA(Gold)/CARQUEST(PB) have silicone ADBV ... yet according to the websites (posted brochure for NAPA Gold), it appears all filters have the silicone ADBV.

*Some filters may or may not have these specific features due to OE requirements or other manufacturing processes. Refer to individual part numbers for specific details.

This is the statement WIX provides.

Red = silicone
black = nitrile

all the ones pictured have silicone (and they should all be 100%identical, just different paint on the outside).
Nice to see the Wix is the cheapest. Kinda odd too. Usualy a rebadged quality filter sells for less than the original.

Here in Eastern Canada, Carquest and Napa will match the oil filter prices of the big box stores for brand name oil filters.

True, but then I wouldn't have had a reason to spend my Saturday hunting down these filters.

Not that my wife thought it was a particularly good use of my time anyway.
