I have a filter I'm getting ready to C&P off of a Chevy 350. It's a Napa Gold, 1060, and on the filter is says... Made for Napa by the Guard Corp. Gastonia, NC.

A quick google led me to some info that stated, back in the day Napa wasn't allowed to make it publicly known that their filters were Wix. Hence the "Guard" name, which were really a Wix filter. I have not however, been able to determine when (year) the switch from Guard, to Wix or Affina labeling was made.

Interestingly enough, it also has a nitrile ADBV. I'll cur it up in the next week or so when I have some time.

Are they no longer supplying NAPA?
Well, I can't say completely but they've moved towards Premium Guard built filters now. Some say due to WIX quality but I have a different interpretation & that is PG was able to beat WIX pricing, during covxx when prices increased, along w/being a good quality filter.

Wix is in Gastonia NC now M+H.

It seemed to have been an old idea in 2004.

Yep, Napa Gold. Any idea on Napa Platinum?
I don't really know. I just looked at NAPA's website, and their photos show the Premium Guard built filters for the Gold series of filters. The Platinum photos still look like the old Wix build version (Wix XP clone). If they changed the website photos for the Gold, then I'd think they would have also changed the photos for the Platinum if it too was differently sourced.

Napa publicly claimed supply issues but I’m sure your right about cost. IMO quality was also part of it.

Agree, I can definitely see the supply issues with a lot of WIX filters being built in the US during that time period would've been rocky.
So, "Priority" would've probably looked like (Supply<Cost<Quality) w/Supply being the most important factor. If they had nothing to sell no one's making money... 😅

There is a Mann Hummel factory, off US321 in Gastonia. I assume that is it.

Jeeze. That means the Platinum must be $25-$30…
I just looked at NAPA's website and the NAPA Golds in regular passenger car size are $12.99 and the NAPA Platinums are $14.49. Larger filters are much more, probably giant sized filters for big diesel engine applications.
