WIX BPV Leak?

On the Mini Mopar Filter Study:

" The only drawback to this [Wix] design is that the bypass valve seats metal-to-metal against the bottom cartridge end plate. This could allow dirty oil to seep from the dirty side to the clean side of the filter, bypassing the element. The design will not allow oil to seep back into the pan, though.

Does anyone think this is a valid concern?

There are some people who think oil filters are unnecessary ,so why worry about it! I think filters are necessary . Probably even the low price filters work if not run too long.

Seems like a potential "bypass" source to me. Whatever delta P is across the media also appears across the metal to metal "seal" of the bypass assembly to media assembly.

With the strong spring used in Wix filters, perhaps no inadvertant bypassing occurs through this metal to metal joint. About half way down in this thread, Pete C. basically says it's not a problem.

Someone please show me a Wix filter with a metal to metal bypass valve seat. I'm sure the guys in Product Engineering would love to see it too.
All the ones I've seen and handled were phenolic/metal (closed end design), or nitrile/metal (threaded end design).

Pete,

The metal to metal "seat" that's being referred to is the metal to metal joint between the front end bypass valve assembly and filter element. Look back at the thread I linked to in my earlier post.

Same here...all the Wix filters I cut open had the by-pass designs you just described...no metal to metal

Hey Guys,
Here is what I am refering to: where the BPV Assy contacts the end cap.

Maybe with a strong spring the gap is small enough and if it leaks it is actually "filtering" too?
