While using oil filters with better efficiency may not produce data of direct correlation to reduced engine wear, even those in agreement would still choose more efficient filter all other things like cost being equal or close. Why, because there's nothing to lose. But, as with most things ROI or cost-benefit comes into consideration or should. Using an expensive filter rated for 10-15k, for 5-6k makes little sense. Similar to running synthetic oil for only 3k mile oci's.

As for posting of dissection pics, I actually see benefit to posting pics of filters like the OP's that have been in actual use over oci's of differing lengths. Shows how well they've held up in actual use and there's no waste of a usable oil filter, so no negatives.

However, the recent trend I'm seeing of posting of multiple new/unused filters gives me pause to consider if at least in some cases based on the associated commentary there's some agenda. If it's not shill-ing, imo it's giving at least the appearance of such. I've posted one unused filter disection here, and that involved a discussion of a then Super Tech/Champ center tube manufacturing flaw. Figured $2.84 not too much to check out a possible, later confirmed flaw.

With all the virgin and used filter autopsies here, on the net and youtube no need to waste perfectly good filters imo. It's said perception is reality, this is my perception.

sayjac: Masterfully put and I agree.

A visual feature comparison of a autopsied filter is very near a waste because there is more than one road to the same destination and very seldom is one feature substantially better than another. Especially in the cases where the person discussing the differences doesn't really understand them or is biased.

I am more interested in seeing autopsies to measure media area and such. Some filers have a big can but very little media and that can tell you a lot about flow and capacity.

I hate to see filters wasted in the virgin state... especially when if a person goes back a few months, they can find the exact same part number autopsied previously. Often with better photography. Oh well.
