Made in Austria.
Wire backed. I thought synthetic blend, but maybe pure synthetic given wire backing?
8000 miles on filter. 111500 miles on engine, M272 3.5L V6 in a 2007 Sprinter.
5W40 QS Euro.
Last 500 miles were with a quart of HPL EC30 added to the 10qt sump. 1 qt had burned off, giving room.

Was interested to see if anything might have loosened up from the EC30.

I didn't see anything resembling sludge or coke. I did see a couple sharp flakes/splinters. Not sure what they were. Something plastic. Also saw a few shiny metallic looking spots, but could not get a good photo of them. Too small, only visible at certain, narrow angles, like the tip of a pin.

Nice work. What went in and on? Thank You

That's great it has reinforced media. Other than the "Splinters" the media looks pretty clean for 8k. Thanks for sharing this Mahle.

I put on an STP cheapie from Autozone. I didn't expect this to be so clean after 500 miles of HPL's EC. I was following the recommendation that allows running the EC longer in the oil change interval, but keep an eye on the filter and plan to swap it out more frequently if it gets loaded.

I figure I'll run this another 500 miles and then switch in a Fram XG that I already have. Though to be honest, after seeing this one up close I'm inclined to stay with it. And as luck would have it, last month I got a Mercedes ML320 which I think takes the same size filter. Maybe I put the Fram in it and get another Mahle for the Sprinter.

Sounds like a good plan 👍

Well that was so much fun, I wrapped up the filter media and set it on a pad of paper towels for 2 days. The paper towels, with a gravity assist, wicked the oil out of the media. A lot more coke deposits are evident, but still pretty clean. The photo with a lot of pin cushion I took through a large magnifying glass if anyone is curious why it's different from the others.

Enjoy.
