Windows 11 BSOD

Yep!

So the HP service page for that unit is here:

Only firmware update I can see is for an Intel SSD, which I assume you don't have (I never end up with the drives those seem to apply to).

There are a few driver updates, including the MEI driver which you should probably do, though I'm still leaning toward it being a RAM problem, and would like to see it pass memtest before I rule that out.
If I click on the HP Service app on laptop it says I have all the updates for my laptop (2 got installed today but did not seem to help). As does the Windows update.

Still a good idea to check the installed versions against what's listed on that page.

Are you still waiting on the USB stick?

Does it stay up long enough to be able to kick of Windows' memory diagnostic? Just type 'memory' into search and it should come up.

You could take one of the RAM sticks out and try to run on 8 GB. If it still crashes, swap to the other stick. I don't know how well Windows 11 would work with such small memory though.

Works fine with 8GB, FWIW. It's no more memory hungry than 10, which runs "OK" even on 4GB, though noticeably better on 8+.

Ok memory stick arrived. It's USB A (old) on one side and USB C on the other side. On my Acer small laptop I down-loaded the memtest and inserted the memory stick and created and verified the image. But on my Acer I get into the boot menu and the USB memory stick does not show up. Only Windows Bood Menu.

This is what's on the memory stick: (picture)

What did I miss?

Memtest 4 is the old BIOS version, you should have grabbed the current (11.1) UEFI version.

Ok I formatted the USB memory stick.

Downloaded the newer version and wrote the image to the USB memory stick. But it still does not seem bootable.

The Acer boot manager only shows Windows Boot Manager.

The UEFI version, 11.1
That's what I downloaded the second time. If you look at the picture of the contents of the USB drive it's different than the first one. It mentions EFI. So that should be 11.1.

But the USB drive does not seem bootable. Do I need to do something to make it bootable.

Also (and oddly) when the writing of the image to the USB is done, I seem to end up with a D & E drive on the USB. For the E drive it cannot determine the file system.

Did you use the tool that was in the ZIP file to make the USB?

Not sure what was wrong but did it a second time and it works fine. I am running the normal 4 passes, but for pass 1 it found no errors on HP ProBook.
Excellent. Yeah, let it run the full round series, if it finds nothing, we can scratch RAM off the list!
