I'm getting this "HTTP ERROR 406" code when I try to log on to several forums. Including one that I'm an administrator / moderator on. (Most of these websites are of the Fora format). There are several videos on Youtube that cover this, many with steps to correct it.

However, they're involved, and have several comments saying the "fix" had a lot of unintended consequences, like erasing passwords, etc. So I'm leery to attempt this. I don't want to create an even bigger mess. I'll freely admit I'm not that computer literate when it come to these type of matters.

Is anyone familiar with this error code? I should mention that my wife's computer, and my phone, do not have this issue. All the websites that are giving me grief, come up without any issues... So it would appear this is some type of setting that has changed in my desktop.

"Fora" is the highly customized version of Xenforo, which was modified by Verticalscope to be an ad serving machine. It's likely that Fora is having a problem that is causing the http 406 (not acceptable), not Xenforo itself.

The other issue is you shouldn't care what your passwords are because they are long, random, and stored in a password keeper. If they are short, memorable, and repeated, then good luck. Use MFA where ever available.

Perhaps it not my computer then? This has being going on for 3 days now.

No, I'm not exactly sure what you mean?
There is a private new window or incognito window tab I. Your web browser of choice that opens with absolutely no cache, cookies or passwords. Many times what you have stored locally is corrupted in your web browser will lead to these errrors . That mode is as if it never opened anything.

This should always be step # 1 in diagnosing anything web-related.

Anybody have any luck curing this error? I have three forums which I can no longer access. I am running Chrome. I have several other forums and sites which work perfectly.

Today I'm finding this issue has gone away. All of the forums and websites this error was appearing on are back up online with no such error. I did nothing on my end, so it must've been some other issue that was causing this.

Codger, are you finding this has been corrected on your end as well?
