Old software sent me to BitLocker and can't get out

Just tried the method you posted, no success. After playing around for a few minutes, this is as close as I can get.. (see first picture) when I click on but locker, this is what comes up (see second picture).

All a screw game by it people.

Try a pc search for the control panel, you may be able to access settings not available otherwise.

The Reset This Computer option got me back up with all my data saved, but some things are not working properly, e.g. my file tree is hiding some folders and I can't get my email app to work. I'll pay with it for another couple of days and if not satisfied will send it back to Dynabook and let them wipe and reinstall.

BTW, The link in @Trav post # 6 allowed me to shut off BitLocker.
In control panel open file explorer options, click on the "view" tab and make sure "show hidden files, folders and drives" is checked.

Because ofa prior Microsoft bitlocker "freeze out", when I purchased my current notebook with windows 11 pre installed, I purchased a additional windows 11 version that didn't require mandatory Microsoft registration (one office /one driveI think they call it iirc). The version of windows 11 I am running may not have installed bitlocker behind my back. Unfortunately, memory issued (my memory not the computer memory), is not working to let me recall if I was able to bypass bitlocker with the windows 11 version I purchased aftermarket.

Two words: scheduled backups.

(been using Hasleo free for a couple of months - a very worthy replacement for Macrium).

As I mentioned above, I did a Reset with saving my data, and it seems to work and left my data. I am a little concerned, however, if there is anything changed by this reset that could come back to haunt me. So my question, does a Reset return the computer back to the way I received it new (except that it retained my data)? In other words, should I cancel the warrantee return as the problem is now completely fixed?

It most likely reset Windows back to the version when you originally got the laptop; meaning it's possible that the issue will occur again once everything updates. I would suggest disabling bitlocker now while you still can.

When you installed the photoshop program it altered the windows registry of which there is a backup on the machine, doing a system restore will restore the PC to a time before you installed the photoshop if you had do that. What you did is keep your files and program files and restored a copy of the registry.
Look and see if there is an uninstaller for photoshop, if so run it. If not post back. With Bit Locker turned off the problem should not reoccur.

I disabled BitLocker following the @Trav link in post 6, and I just checked to make sure it is still unlocked. It is! And I got my email working, and so is everything else I tried, and my data is all preserved!! YeeHah! Thanks all for your very valuable help!

I'm not at all Windows savvy but from what I understand BitLocker will never really go away. After disabling it or removing it, it will return on the next Windows update.

Good to know. I'll save the code for disabling it and recheck after each upgrade. In any case, the offending software/file that triggered it should have been removed with all the rest of the apps when I reset the computer, and everything is now working fine.

Glad you were able to do the "rescue".

Thanks. Using this I was able to unlock the C drive, but now every attempt to restart brings me to a blue screen titled Automatic Repair, and every option it offers loops me back to that blue screen.

One option was Reset This Computer while saving my data. I just clicked it and am waiting to see what happens. What's to lose since I was about to return to laptop to Dynabook, who would reload Windows anyhow.
Have you tried using a Linux systemrecue cd, then installing dislocker then going from there? I've used it to fix Windows issues in the past.

Thanks - I don't think I am sophisticated enough to attempt that, but will keep it in mind if this problem ever reoccurs.
