Windows 10 Pricing (after the free upgrade period)

Microsoft continues to say that those who download Windows 10 on their eligible computers for free during the 1-year period after release will have Windows 10 for free on their machines for life.

Apparently, they also released pricing. And I think it's pretty stiff. This Forbes.com article lists Windows 10 Home at $119 and Windows 10 Pro at $199. Newegg apparently lists them for $109 and $149 respectively, a discount from MS's pricing structure.

That's steep. I'm sure people will continue to pirate as they already do.

If I buy a computer that comes with windows, cool. But for my usual $50 ebay special laptops, I will just continue using Linux.

Why is that stiff pricing? That's the same price as Windows 8 and similar to Windows 7 when it was released (although there were more tiers of Windows 7).

These are the retail prices. PC manufacturers and corporations who use PCs (by the thousands) will not be paying that. How many people really upgrade their PC to a newer operating by paying for a new version retail license.

It costs more because it goes up two numbers instead of just one! Imagine what they could sell it for if it went to...Eleven!
