I do more and more with my phone instead of my laptop these days anyhow.

You can always give Linux Mint a try, or one of the other Linux OS. I brought computers back to useful life a lot older than yours using Linux Mint.

I noticed the "Get Windows 10" icon is now gone in by desktop tray ...

Staying with Windows 7 until it's not supported anymore.

i imaged my 7 box,did the upgrade,saved the genuineticket.xml,and fresh installed 10.
imaged that.
so i reserved my copy for when i decide to upgrade.and more is known about defanging the [censored].
cloned my 7 image onto a new ssd.the 10 sits on the nas gathering dust.....
10 serves micro$oft not the end user.10 had no discernable performance gain on this 8 core 16gb box.
i am sure i can slim the pig down and gain performance but i really dont care right now.i hope anyone who tries to upgrade images their hdd first.
seen too many come in the shop totally hosed.users lost everything going back.their files got overwritten.GONE!
not hidden,renamed,moved but OVERWRITTEN.UNRECOVERABLE!

I did pretty much the same thing as you. I imaged Win 7, installed Win 10 trimmed it down, tweaked it, and created an image of that. Honestly I spend about 95% of my time using Linux Mint, I might be switching everything over to that.

linux mint for the win.
i use it more than 7.
and i put it on customers machines that were getting killed with malware due to teenagers doing risky (risque?)things with them.
solved that issue instantly.

[censored] windows 10 man! It's [censored] garbage!

Enjoy your [censored] forced updates and [censored] Cortana listening to you 24/7!

But wait get the pro edition and change the group policy! Well I have a better [censored] idea don't install windows 10 at all!

Yeah it runs 5% [censored] faster than 7 but you give up any remaining privacy and control you had.

Free my [censored] [censored]! Free my [censored] [censored]! There is nothing free! Especially from a [censored] corporation! If you don't hand over your money you hand over your time or personal information.

Just disable that stuff. IT isn't hard.

Usually run Mint and Win 7.

Imaged the system then installed 10. Runs fine but I hate it. It looks like Hasbro designed it with the icons, control panel, and the login screen. No speed improvements, some hardware problems (older scanner) resolved.

Going back to 7.
