Window Tint Opinions?

On several prior cars I've had the windows tinted to 35%. Somewhat for looks and somewhat for UV protection. On my newest car, a 2012 White Jetta SEL, I am still undecided. I have at times, had opinions that tint looks "ghetto" or unclassy. The car itself, while not a high end car, has a very classy look to it.

So..thoughts on tint? Any input is appreciated!

Chrome wheels would be ghetto. Tint is normal. I think it looks good on any car. I'd put tint on a Rolls Royce.

I'm hot natured and have sensitive eyes, so 20% on all vehicles I own. Not real worried what everyone else thinks...

I just got my white Nissan versa sedan tinted last week. 35% all around 3M FX premium tint. It looks great, easy to see out at night, and dosen't look "gangster" at all.

Good quality tint keeps the interior cooler and dashes and leather seats hold up better. Dark home done tint with bubbles would be ghetto, but not a quality job.

35% is pretty light. IMO you have to get below 20% to look 'gangster'.

I have 35% all around on my Golf and it's excellent. Need to get the 5 done before next summer, probably going with 35% on it as well.

Bling wheels are one thing, but tint is good for preserving vision and keeping the car cool. If some think it's ghetto then so be it.

The Hyundai XG300 has no tint.

You can see the built in UV rejection matrix of "circles" in the glass when you wear polarized glasses but you can really feel the sun beating through the glass on a hot day.

I don't care if it is viewed as "ghetto". I'll take a good quality heat rejecting neutral tint in summer.

35% is not dark at all. 15% is dark.

Plus, some films tend to look darker than others due to their reflectivity.

Here's a nano-ceramic 35% tint. Doesn't really look all that dark, but it's definitely making a huge difference in keeping the interior cool. Notice how in direct sunlight you can still see all the way through the car.

By comparison, here's the same car with an illegal 15% tint. It was really dark and looked illegal. Now look and notice how it's like black paint -- nothing is visible.

You could put a "normal" 20% tint on all 5 windows that is visible in direct sun. Not sure how cool it would keep the interior, though.

Maybe "Llumar" .. Some brands have "Good" "better" and "Best" quality.

White looks with llumar Air Blue 80%. This would give you the heat rejection equivalent to many dyed 35% films, but without the tinted appearance.

That's the only tint I would use.

3M crystalline! tint is barely visible and has superior heat rejection.

I went with 20% all around, no regrets. Get a good quality film. Ghetto is film that blisters. I found a guy that did all the tint jobs at a Mercedes dealership and was happy to do side jobs. I knew I had found an artist when he cleaned the glass with a razor blade. I paid $175 for my black MS3. Four years later, still flawless. Money well spent. Good luck.
