As the title says my wife wants a new truck .What upsets me about this that she now has a 2002 Ford 7.3 Superduty with about 130,000 miles on it and it has been to date the best vehicle I ever owned as far as reliability and repair over the years. We bought it new and, I changed all the fluids at 1,000 miles . The engine oil was changed every 5,000 miles more or less . Then every 30,000 miles did the trans, 6 speed manual and the differential 2x2 and drained the block and radiator to replace the coolant then changes the power steering oil. a couple years ago I replaced the p/s booster due to a slight seep and all the high pressure hoses . I could have done nothing to it and gotten the same $$$ for it End of rant.

I can't blame you, that is the only Ford truck I would ever own. You will however have no problem selling it. The resale of the 7.3 with low mileage and good condition is still quite shocking! Unfortunately the price of new trucks is also quite shocking... Goodluck with whatever you choose.

My wife's done that to me a couple times lol. I really like her GMC Canyon, nothing but good things to say. I see you guys are from Idaho. Currently vacationing in Coeur D'Alene, I love it here!

CDA, is like little Los Angles/Orange county, no offense, I'm from there! I'm 50 miles above you, 30 miles over toward Montana in peaceful Isolation. I was in CDA at the doctor today, 1.6hr drive=;(

If you have time, you might try a day trip to lake Ponderay,"Largest lake in Idaho" Sandpoint, and Priest lake is very very nice compared to CDA. There is a few nice view points from Sandpoint to Hope on Lake Ponderay, some islands that rich people live on.

Only if you go through with it. Don't trade it in. You've taken excellent care of it. And I'm guessing it's long been paid for. So, much like Nancy Regan, "Just Say No!" Besides 130,000 miles is nothing on a truck like that. Especially one that's been properly cared for with fluid changes on a regular basis. She'll get over it. Let her find some other way to waste your hard earned money.

Yep, that's why I don't see a reason to go overboard on maintenance these days. It doesn't necessarily pay in the long run. Might feel good but it might well be money out the door.

That truck sounds like a great truck to buy used!

Well, the thing is that works both ways. Or at least is supposed to. There is nothing wrong with keeping your wife "happy". Unless it involves undertaking in financial foolishness in order to accomplish it. A good woman should be happy that her husband looks after her vehicle in this manner. Not upset him by complaining that she wants rid of it. Or become angry simply because this was pointed out to her.

I don't blame women for this as much as I blame men for not standing up to it. Without being insulting, women are a lot like dogs in this regard. If you take good care of them, and love them in the process, they will love you back. (At least that's how it's supposed to work). But depending on how much you allow them to get away with, if you're not careful they will train you.

By not giving in to bad behavior, be it financial or otherwise, that cycle will never get started. Back to dogs. It's much easier to housebreak a puppy, than it is to try to housebreak an adult dog that's been allowed to dump all over the house for 3 years. Bad habits are hard to break. Regardless if it's animals or people who have them.

Heres the question I'd ask... Why do you want a new truck? Is it for a more comfortable ride? Better in car/truck sound/infotainment? Maybe a lower truck that is easier to get into? Maybe something smaller like a Tacoma or the new Ranger that could be easier to park?

Sometimes its not about how long something will last mechanically. I agree your truck sounds like it was very well maintained, but sometimes its just time for something new.

Most people think 16yr.-old vehicles with six-figure mileages on them are unreliable, more dangerous than newer equipment, and simply "not nice". So they want something else. And this is just the sort of thinking that keeps the economy humming. You should probably be grateful that she's been OK with a 3/4-ton filling-shaker like that for as long as she has been. She wants a nice King Ranch like many of her acquaintances have. You're the BITOG-er in this relationship, and she isn't. If you like keeping Old Reliable going (I mean the truck) for whatever purposes you need a Superduty to do, then you drive it, and get her something new-er-ish. Let someone else take the depreciation hit, get on Autotrader and find a nice 2yr.-old Texas truck that some doddering octogenarian has let go after she finally moved into that nice retirement community.

Whaddya want for the truck?

As far as wanting things - we all do - I'd like my high school waistline, a jetpack, and a new set of shoes, but about all I ll manage to get is the shoes.

What the hay is the wife doing with a MT superduty? You have a farm?

If you are a retired woman and not working I could understand not wanting to drive that clatterbox.

Trucks are tooo expensive now.

BTW my wife has her own bank account and her own earned money. She buys her own car.

What is this a throwback to the 1950's sexism?

If you like the SD diesel, keep that smelly oil burner and give her YOUR car/truck if you got a nice one.

I had to talk my wife into buying our Toyota. She said that she felt guilty buying it. Spending that much money and all. I told her we've been married for 35 years, and in that time we have bought a grand total of 2 new cars. Both of which we are still driving. We are in our 60's, have no kids, and no one is going to line our caskets with it when we go. She finally was convinced to separate herself from any such guilt. Now she absolutely loves it, and she's glad we made the purchase.
