Wows, who woulda thought eh. Maybe they don't want to mask what could potentially be a leak in the system?? can't think of any other reason for that policy

Pretty much I suspect. The only reason it should go low is brakes pads themselves are getting low. You don't want any leaks in something so crtical.
 
When you open my hood I have a label that I made with a label maker. It says " Oil 5W-20 Capacity 7Qts, Oil Plug = 13MM " It is very noticable when you open my hood. I have one on each of my vehicles.

Love your wife. Sounds like you do love her. I just hug mine when she does silly stuff. What are you gonna do? Too many important things to worry about - like GOOD BRAKES!!! (yikes)
 
your wife thought she did good, so give her a hug. it is very reasonable to expect a garage, especially run by WalMart, to do a good job. I've always been pleased with WalMart work, and their oil change prices are reasonable.

No big deal, she didn't ignore it, and followed mechanic's advice - no reason to blame wife.

Definitely go back tomorrow, don't make any fuss, just insist that they put in the proper grade of oil - 5w20. They will usually do this immediately, with no complaint - they are interested in good customer relations. You might ask them what is their policy on checking brake fluid, and if they did not do the proper policy, then the person not doing it should be spoken to. My WalMart checks ALL fluids. It is reasonable to check brake fluid if light goes on, THEY should have done it. If they don't do that service (they don't do brakes), then they should have told you wife: we don't do brakes, and suggested to her where to take it. Not worth getting a heart attack or a stroke over.

He's a crazy russian.. but he keeps everything in stock and he knows what to put in your car, he even has some Mobil 1 0w40, GC 0W30, Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30, etc..

Even americans go to him for oil changes, haha!

That's correct generally only reason the brake fluid is low is the pads are shot. Lets say they did fill it full and she went out hit a school bus or got hit they could get major lawsuit over that fill-up. I'd just be happy they didnt drain your engine and fill your transmission! i've heard that before lol
 
Not too much to get too cranked about.

Most of us are merely a push button away from communicating with each other. Before cell phones ..and even with them, "throw money at it and make it go away" was my wife's first instinctive reaction. I could line several rooms with $100 bills with the "Neither rain, nor snow, nor dark of night ..and especially consulting someone who you trust and know ..allegedly love and are really on "their side" ..will stop me from doing whatever I was doing before this event interfered with my day's agenda" disposition toward things.


..like I said, not too much to complain about. You're lucky she didn't get talked into a 5 star brake job to put the light out.

I'm curious why you didn't keep an eye on the fluids?someone asked earlier.

i checked it about 5-6 weeks back and added a couple of ounces of brake fluid when i was checking the oil.usually this vehicle does not lose oil unless we take it on a high speed extended trip.
i usually get our local firestone guy to do the brakes on my vehicles.he checked them about 3-4 months ago and pronounced them fine.that being said i have always disliked the way the brakes feel on this vehicle,but it always stops adequately.
i'm still a bit miffed about this waste of an oil change.wrong grade and overcharged to boot($30 for castrol vs $20 for kendall Semi Synthetic at tires plus.)i am impressed that SWMBO attempted to get the problem checked.
i am still hot about w-m ignoring her request to check the brake fluid.just as a matter of courtesy towards a woman they should have checked it.she would have gotten better results asking some guy out in the parking lot to help than she did from w-m's paid employees.......hmmmm from my experiences at a few of their stores that seems to be a trend lately.if it is against store policy they should have told my wife and she could have went else where.
i think i will go visit them today and start off polite and let where it goes from there be governed by their attitudes and actions.

Castrol 5w30 is a excellent oil and is not going to harm a single thing.

Thank your wife for thinking instead of the average person who hardly gets service done.. (yet still goes the miles with no problems)

Also calm down when you go back to Wal-Mart. I'd tell you where to park it

Well, that's obscene! Seems too stupid to be true... but there's a lot of that going around these days. Any place that won't check and/or top off coolant or brake fluid (all you have to do on most cars is simply LOOK though the clear reservoir) is not a SERVICE establishment by any definition or stretch of the imagination.

Bill: If a person brings a car into a place for a brake issue and the brake issue is left virtually unattended, and an OIL CHANGE is done instead... with the incorrect grade of oil installed to boot ..???.. I think a customer has reason for a strong complaint. Sure, we know that 5W30 Castrol isn't going to hurt the car, but that's not the point at all.

WalMart: "Right...we didn't properly check the car after the customer complained of a brake warning light being lit and the customer died in an accident... but at least we got her oil changed (even though she didn't ask for it)!"

Customer: "....." (eerie silence... oh that's right, SHE'S DEAD!)

she asked for the oil change, didn't she?

the only issue here is they did not check the brake fluid, and if it is REALLY the case that they can't fill it, they should have advised her to go to a brake tech straight away.
 
Actually, I should have picked different words, they can't fill it although I have checked brake and coolant if requested. But often times the message is lost between sign up and the actual work being done. Its not part of the standard check procedure.
