Well, my wife lost her job due to her boss (An Orthopedic Surgeon) not knowing how to run a business. Wife worked there as a Medical Transcriptionist for 8 years. This doctor did not even shake her hand when she was laid off. The doctor did not think my wife could track him down but, she did and let him have it politely. At my wife workplace they have been laying off office employees about one a day. This doctor even told her the week before that she was a valued employee. What a snake! You have to understand that this doctor hates confrontation of any sort so he leaves it up to the office administrator to do his dirty work. This doctor gave his wife $70,000 to go shopping on their Italy vacation! He also owns a small jet! On top of this he is bringing another doctor on staff. I hope the new doctor does his research before coming on board. Seems that the problem is that the Medical Coder on staff does not know her job to well. She will code a medical procedure say that should be charged $65,000 for knee surgery for only $10,000. Thats just one example. If this gal is the problem which I doubt she is I don't know why they don't get a competant one on staff? All in all this doctor does not know how to manage money or run a business. But, he sure gives himself one heck of weekly paycheck. Other physician groups are making bets on when this doctor will go under. From what I can gather he is the laughing stock of the medical community. I hope this jerk has to go bankrupt and ruin his credit. Lastly, he could not even make rent on his medical building this past month.

From the sounds of it, maybe it's better she's not working for him anymore. I'm sure that it's still upsetting for her to lose her job, though. I wish her the best of luck.

She is better not being there.
But you have to realize that this is the way that things go these days... She's been there for 8 years. This means that she costs more in salary and benefits than someone fresh out of school looking for a job. They win.
But, you know, the doctor is the one who took all the risk in business, and is the one who has all the extra education, so its all fair, right?

Been there, done that. In the end it'll be a positive experience if you let it. She'll need your support 100% though, because until she gets that next job it can be easy to get discouraged.

What most management types don't get is that being lied to is the most insulting aspect of employment. Bad news or criticism are part of the environment.
Rob, I'm sorry to hear about this. She will be better off in the long run. There are a great number of physicians who are really outstanding. And then there are guys like this who care nothing about the patient or those they work with -- only the bottom line matters for them. I hope she gets with one of the good ones soon. And don't worry, if the man-made regulations don't ultimately get him, the law of supply and demand will.

The support you are giving your wife is admirable. I am unsure why your wife confronted her employer. I would have wanted a reference for where I have worked for the last eight (8) years and not burned bridges. But maybe I am misreading the situation. If so, my mistake.
