Why TCW-3?

For those that add 2-stroke oil to their gas to improve mpg's....why use TCW-3 rated oils?

Yesterday, during a 500 miles round trip, I added 5 oz. of Lucas Semi-sythetic 2-stroke oil. It's not TCW-3. This was an ashless formula used in air cooled engines. I had it laying around, so I whipped up a batch for my Nissan.

It worked. Only with Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant and now, with 2-stroke oil, can I get anywhere near 30 mpg's. I usually get 23 city driving. 26 highway.

TC-W3 is also ashless and detergent.

I do not see the point of your additives in gas and going from 26 to 30 MPG sounds a little far fetched.

I certain models of diesel engines where more lubrication is needed, TCW-3 is a good additive.

I know it does. But this KA24DE engine in my Nissan has always responded VERY well to Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant. For highway driving, I would go from go from 26 to near 30 mpg's if I had the Lucas on board. I don't know why. I just did. This is with thousands of miles of test. I do a continual track of all my mileage in both my vehicles.

So, I wanted to dry some 2-sroke oil I had laying around. I added it to the gas (but it wasn't TCW-3, like I said, it was for air cooled engines). It performed just as well as the Lucas product. I just didn't know if I was the TCW-3 was used by most for any specific reason. Maybe the detergent level in that oil is higher than other 2-stroke oils, especially since it's ashless (the non-TCW3 oil is ashless).

I don't know why or how it works. I know it sounds like [censored]. But it's not in my Nissan. The additive has ZERO effect in my K1500 truck. I know a few guys who have had great success with the additive as well in their late model Chevy trucks, with the modular motors (both 5.3L and 6.0L).

My experience with TC-W3 is that it needs to be controlled more precisely i.e. if you exceed the "optimal", the vehicle runs poorer! Start with 2oz/10gal as baseline and experiment from there.

The ls1 novel sounded pretty convincing and I gave it a try. I had two things going on with my '07 Grand Prix GT - hard to start some mornings, like taking 6 or 7 tries at cranking (normal temps outside) and when it idled you could feel a slight hesitation (also evidenced by the rpm needle moving slightly.) Both problems went away when I started using tc-w3. Used Supertech for the most part but also Pennzoil marine and others. Car has 90k on it and always starts right up. I don't notice any mileage difference but I think it added a couple years' life to my starter. As they say,keep doing what works.
I keep a 3 oz. bottle in my console for the next 15-16 gal. fill-up.

Since I always add 2-3 oz of Techron to each fill up, I wonder if adding TCW3 will be ok? Will they cancel each other out? Is the TCW3 Or Techron better? Or should I use both each fill? I'm so confused.

The lucas stuff is motor oil with detergents.
I'll never use it or recommend it again.

TCW3 is made for water cooled 2 strokes. Less deposits and less octane loss [octane loss is really minor for us].
Saying 'ashless' does not mean there are no deposits. Attenuated maybe, but not void of them.

I used it religiously in the Z4. One of the benefits, at least to me, whas easier starting.

And using the Walmart brand TC-w3, it's much cheaper than mmo.

i mixed TC-w3 and MMO for a while. i cant say the TC did or didnt help. so i went back to MMO. i DO know that MMO keeps the inside of my engine lubed. cause it starts VERY VERY fast, every time. but i dont have anything against TC-w3
