I have been buying Purolator products for a long time, they used to be really good, but now I'm hearing a lot of negative stuff about their more recent products..... can anyone fill me in on this??

How can you call it hate … I nearly cried when I cut open and disposed of my last 4 new ones …

I did this to verify how thin/weak the media was

I always like buying American-made filters when I can, and that's why Wix and Purolator have always been my go-to filters. Is Wix still a good product? Are there any other good US-made filters out there that I'm not aware of?

Thanks,

Ryan

I was one of the biggest Purolator fans. The tears in the media is bad enough. The couple I had on my Jetta had split the ADBV, causing pieces of it to go into the filter.

I run them still every once in a while yet, but not nearly as much as I use to.

I've been using them off and on for 10 years have an old PureOne on the Corolla right now. I've never had a tear o lator?
Since the unspaced word in now censored. Someone really needs to get a life!

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

Dome end tear.

Thread end tear.

The FL820S was my favorite filter until this happened.

So, yes, occasionally a Purolator made filter will tear.

Some folks can't accept that it is true.

And this failure is mild compared to some.

It has been an ongoing thing since 2013-2014 when they were first documented, with several members contacting Purolator and no response (including me).
I can't recall seeing tears in any 2019 made filters, but there have been a few ADV issues as well as some louvers not being opened up still.

Wix is still a good, solid built filter, although the filtration numbers are not as high as some other filters of similar cost.

Quite a few Wix filters (mostly cartridge) are made in Poland, Korea (and maybe Mexico), most Frams (canister type) are made in USA, with many of the cartridge style being made overseas, same for Champ Labs.

I've used half a dozen Purolators across all 3 lines since they redesigned the media seam and changed the paint color of the cans. None of the new design had tears. The single red can sample that I cut open had very thin metal.
If the can on my one red filter was representative, I wouldn't use them on a vehicle with a filter exposed to road debris.

I had multiple failures of the Purolator made Bosch filters so I stopped using them. No hate per say, just chose to get a higher quality product. Interesting that tear o la tor word is censored.

Topic has been beat to death.

Too much bandwidth, time and energy have been expended on this already.
