Guys don`t beat me up to bad... I`ve tried to find some user feedback on Amsoil. It appears that most members here prefer PU or M1. In all seriousness can you say why? I used to use Penn, QS, back in the old days with Dino. I have used M1 in past vehicles tho. In my Work vehicles I used Amsoil when I needed the longer OCI`s., and currently use Valvoline, Castrol GTX, and Supertech at the proper intervals with the other cars... so I find myself questioning which oil to use. trying not to over think this but it does get confusing with all the new synths, blends, and so called synths... I currently need a good 0w20 in the Toyota. I have read many threads here on the Toyota oil and agree with your findings. I understand it is their proprietary blend, but pricing @ 93$ a case before tax is a little nuts and not local. I could use a very good similar or equivalent oil that is more readily avail and easy to obtain. However, I will be doing 5K oci`s bc we Tow with the FJ in season. Thanks for reading! cool

Availability. If I could get amsoil locally for 5$/qt for syn I'd might buy it. M1 0w20 is 24.50/5qt jug. Can you not just go to a toyota dealer and buy the 0w20? why would you order it at +90$ case?

Probably because they're easier to find on a local store shelf, plus it's cheaper if you catch in on sale. They're all good oils though.

No shipping cost, easy to get, and honestly nobody here can say amsoil protects and engine better then the 2 oil you mentioned. So why go through the hassle of obtaining it. M1 and PU have both been proven Extended drain performance aswell OTC oil have caught up to many of the boutique oils The only Amsoil oil worth buying anyway is the signature series. It's still to expensive IMO

That is getting it from the closest dealer. They quoted me 93$ for a case of 12 plus tax. I thought that high.

yep, they`ve added a few new flavors since I last purchased. I never had any issues with the XL series. Our local wally world is not cared for and stocked properly, almost always 0w20 is not on the shelf. Sometimes it is much easier to have something shipped bc the 20-70 mile round trip depending on what store we go to costs more in fuel than shipping. nothing sucks more than heading out and coming back empty handed... boutique oils? RP, PU,Castrol are going for 8$ a qt OTC at wally world.

yeah but jeez PP or QSUD is on par with the XL line. This is why i say the top tier is the only one worth the hassel. Figure this most syns will perform aswell as the XL line Honestly for 5k Oil changes I'd pick PYB. It'll do that easy and has a very stout additive package and a TBN of 8-9

Pardon my not knowing, PYB? I understand. I broke away from other top tier 2 stroke oils to run mystik synth with very good results, drop shipped that was the way to go... wish they had a better selection OTC here, it`s like a free for all, seriously... Thank you Smokefan...

Pennzoil Yellow Bottle = PYB I too have had my time using Mystik Products when i live in OK. I must say i am to this day impressed with mystik. I used alot of their HD 5-30 Seriously though the NEW SN rated PYB is a great conventional product that will protect very well and keep your engine spotless inside. Many long time synthetic users here have actually started using it. 5,000 miles no problem bud. not to mention it'll be a 20.00 oil change The really only difference between syn and conventional now is cold flow and you can basically double the oil change interval with syns. I don't see any milage gains, better protection over todays top of the line conventional products You will have to stick with a 5-20 though. not many 0-20s unless you go M1. 5-20 PYB will be more then fine where your at

Yep,all quart synths are $9-$10 a quart now. Only exception is the Walmart 5 quart jugs, which you`ll only find CAFE grades unfortunately. If Amsoil could be found on the shelf next to the M1 and Synpower,I`d use Amsoil exclusively.

I`ll def have to check next time out. Thanks... I used to use Interceptor in the ski. Although it is a cleaner burning oil, it left the crank/parts kinda dry when sitting. Mystik JT4 leaves a nice film for an extended period of time in between uses. 40 hours on fresh engine and everything looked great... I don`t know anyone who uses their automotive oils, But I do use their grease... Thanks again...

Generally I take the shipping right out of the equation, bc it would cost me similar monies running around and sometimes less at today`s gas prices. I was over joyed when I found Toyota SN 0w20 for 66 a case, but the dealer wouldn`t ship oil from SC, parts yes, oil no...

You make a VERY good point! Right on!

I`ve seen mention that people purchased Pennzoil online, is this directly from Pennzoil or ? anyone have a sales site?

I`ve ordered Pennzoil GT ($3.00 a quart) from O`Reilly and PP from NAPA ($7.00 a quart). Don`t have to pay shipping, only local sales tax.

One thing that Amsoil still has a lead on is ATF and their severe gear oil. I think its worth the hassle of ordering it. If you look at the shelf at Walmart, its obvious almost no one changes their own diffs or transmission fluid.

^^Absolutely! Gear oil, tranny fluid, etc. When you`re doing gears and/or tranny,go whole hog with the best of the best.

Some Pennzoil grades are hard to find at local stores, PP 0W20 and PU 5W40 are rarely seen at any parts store, but it's available online or at Shell/Pennzoil distributors. PS Amazon had very low price for few hours on PU 5W20 and 10W30 some months ago, I bought 2 cases each for around $18-19 a case. That was the only time I bought oil online.

For me, it is just about the latest official ACEA or ILSAC rating, even though Amsoil claims they meet but the test evidence is never shown to public.
