Exactly. Then once out of warranty, UOA will tell you if the Nissan engineers are correct or not for your vehicle.

Makes sense though that smaller sumps require more frequent changes.

The usual culprits. Some Honda, Toyota, VW, Audi, BMW. Some GM engines that have an outrageous OLM, Infiniti VQ don't seem to sludge but sure get varnish and deposits.

I have seen Volvo with lots or varnish and also Euro engines not found here so its pointless pointing them out.
Some engines don't seem to be bothered and seem to be more resistant to it than others like the Ford mods or GM 3800 and 6.0, Subaru, MB.

All the good ones seem to have one or two things in common, large full sized PCV valves and good crankcase ventilation.
 
Because at those intervals their butts are covered and it costs them nothing. The consumer absorbs the added maintenance costs associated with more maintenance.
If there is in fact an engineering fault and new clean oil takes the engine past warranty then its no longer their responsibility.

The extended drain thing has gotten out of hand and they are paying the bill under warranty.

It would help if companies that really wanted to extend OCIs decided to use appropriate specifications like the European brands do, or even something akin to dexos1. I do have some pretty high faith in conventionals, particularly my Pennzoil conventional, but that doesn't mean it's Mobil 1 0w-40, either.

Nonetheless, I'm keeping my G at severe service intervals at least until warranty is done. Actually, I've been falling behind the mileage the last two OCIs and have been changing early due to the time limitation. This upcoming OCI is going to be particularly galling (i.e. under 2500 miles, yeesh). I was sure I drove more than that over the past few months.

Maybe, but the interval is unchanged in that time.
