Why Chirp the Horn When Locking a Car?

The Regal chirps if you press the door lock button twice. The first time the headlights and turn signals flash, and that's usually enough to tell me, but sometimes I'm not looking at the car and will push it again. "Chirp!" "Oh, okay, I locked it."

I was thinking the same thing. I always use the clicker to lock the car and truck because I have locked my keys inside before. The car will chirp even if I hit the button once. I can't believe people find this annoying. I must have more important things to worry about.

The audible chirp is for blind drivers that cannot see the hazards flash confirming the car is locked. DUH!

Kind of the same principle of the beeping at the crosswalks in cities, so the squirrels know when it's safe to cross the street.

Another odd thread in that I would have never thought that the subject of a chirping door lock would solicit 6-plus pages of responses.

I think most of you are missing the point. First, not all cars do a little "chirp". Some do a full blast of the horn. Second and most important - it has to do with consideration of your fellow man. What bothers you is NOT the point. Everyone is different - some things bother some people more than others. It's not my place to decide what is an acceptable amount of noise that someone else can tolerate.

And it's not about being a grumpy old man. I try to treat people the same way I want to be treated. I try to be considerate to my neighbors and hope that they will do the same.

Like I said before yes there are more important issues in the world. Is this something I lose sleep over? Of course not - that is saved for which oil is protecting my engine better - and which filter is "best" for my vehicles!

(End sarcasm)

What I really see here is that too many people these days are only concerned with themselves - they don't care if they are annoying their neighbors or other people. It's all about themselves. That in my eyes is the saddest part of all this!

Yup. Kind of like the thread about wearing flip flops to restaurants.

Indeed, BUT maybe you haven't had several people sound the horn by pushing the button
when you're right in front of their horn!

Why scare the person so they jump or shake, when they could have common courtesy and wait
5-10 seconds so they're not in front of the horn?

THAT is the question.

Ha ha ha....yes, but to be fair...I never intended it to be a long thread. It was simply meant to be a ranting of one of my many pet-peeves.

Funny though, wasn't it? It must have made an impression, as you still remember it from what....9 months ago or so? I don't even remember.

Yeah, I was just busting your chops. BTW, that thread got deleted, didn't it?

I'm sure there are people who do it on purpose but how do you know that it is the case every time? Do you see someone laughing when it happens?

If it happened to me and I jumped I would laugh it off, chuckle and say they got me. Life is too short to worry about such minor things.

Yes. Go back a page or two and you'll see someone who does it for kicks.

Are you referring to my post?

This was actually posted in jest.

The truth is that I only do it when elderly people and mothers with sleeping babies are in from of the car. Sometimes, if the baby is really asleep or the elderly person is hard of hearing, I have to straight up press the panic button on the remote to get any response.

Yes...I think so. I let myself get all worked up over nothing more than a rant. I tend to be opinionated at times...LoL.

It doesn't take much to get you worked up!

Unfortunately...this is often the case. I've been working on that....for about 40 years. Making a bit of progress to! Another twenty to go and I'll have it licked!!

Me too. I like to show off that my '98 Malibu has remote lock.
