They've made their identity indistinguishable from their ideology. Thus, when presented with opposing information, they don't see disagreement. They see an attack. So they double down, arguing their point louder, angrier, and dumber, defending nonsense like it's sacred scripture.

There's a manipulation factor as well. When a group of people rally behind a charismatic person, they're easily manipulated. Many won't admit it, but that manipulation feels really good. It's a natural high. It feels like societal pressure and all of your burdens are lifted off your shoulders with full trust in this larger than life figure. You (collective you) believe anything this person says and does when the manipulation is total. Facts don't matter to these people. They don't want to be liberated from the manipulation because that means they have to face reality again. They will go to great lengths to protect that manipulation so that they never have to touch grass. Nothing you can say or do will ever change their minds.

I read somewhere a paradoxical concept about this topic. It goes something like this. The fact that this is happening is good for our society at this point in time, and paradoxically it will ultimately become far less of a distraction. For many, beliefs long held "close to the vest" are now in the open. Things people wouldn't have said 10-20 years ago are bitterly spoken or written anonymously. So, as an observer, think of it as a purging, where the adolescent parts of ourselves are often in the forefront. Will it get worse? Yes, very much so in the near term. There is much deceit and self deception to be revealed. Extreme ranges of character and personality traits will be demonstrated.

Put on my objective hat and went to read a Rotella thread. Obviously folks would say bias and oblique statements were all over those threads …
But in the end - critics were saying use it in diesel applications (imagine that) and that there are many other lubes well suited for other machines - also application specific …

It's the same in politics and everywhere else. It's getting worse, because today kids in school are taught far less history, (which is fact based), and far more ideology, (which is not).

And when a older, supposed educated individual, (read teacher), starts selling it to them, they accept it as fact. And in many high ranking colleges today you are punished if you don't, (reduced grades). And in several countries even killed by the millions.... Again, fact based history proves this.

Call me crazy, but if something is so wonderful that you have to incarcerate or kill the person if they don't believe in it, something might just be, "a little off".
