Have used 5w20 in my 2003 Honda Accord 2.4L since new.Presently 43xxx miles. OCI,s have been 6k to 9.7k. oils Ihave used are MC, RP, Val. Dura blend,and PZ blend. All have been 5w20. UOA at 28k showed normal wear on the 9.7k OCI.Driving habits are normal around town with some freeway everyday.The car is leased so the OCI,s and oil selections have been for my education. The one thing I have noticed about this engine is the continual improvement of gas mileage. Presently it gets 34 plus on the freeway with a high of 36.4 on a round trip to Atlanta(1500 miles).Filter selection has been Pure one (oversize PL24458).Present oil has5k on it and looks like new. IMO Honda knows as much or more than any engine builder to decide the oil viscosity to use.Oil consumpsion has dropped to zero.First OCI was 1PT. Your weather in CA.may cause you concern about 5w20. I would stick with it unless you are doing some towing or other heavy driving to cause high oil temps. FWIW

I use M1 5w20 (0w20) in my 04' Mazda6 V6, with OCI every 5k mi or 6 months. Car has only 16k miles on it, and have been using M1 since 5k mi. Mostly hot here in FL.
Havoline 5w20 in a 01 Subaru, 2.5L motor. Yes, I'm trying it again.

I asked the questions becase I have a new Prius, that calls for 5w-30, but I was thinking of using Red Line 5w-20 which is a thick 20 weight. It's rated at 9.1 cSt at 100F and I think that 30 weight starts just above that. It's a company car and if I like it I'll buy it, if things work out.
Torco SR-1 5w-20 synthetic. 2006 Mazda3 2.3. I dumped the factory fill at 1,100 miles and replaced it with Torco, I have 15,000 miles now. SoCal high desert (20*f-112*f) 65% highway 35% city.
I will be doing my first ever UOA in about 1 month, so I'll know for sure how everything looks.

Penn Platinum 5w20 in a 2001 Civic LX with 94k and counting. I run 10k intervals on it.
M1 currently for a 5k interval in my 2005 CR-V. Will be switching it to PP for 5k intervals (until out of warranty, thanks BITOG!)

What year is your Prius?
Prius is a 2007, had it's first oil change at 500 miles and now has almost 2k miles. First change was Castrol 5w-30 GTX. Actually if Syntec 5w-20 is 9. something it might make a good choice.
