You can use that 1 GB to store large files.

So far I haven't gotten any spam in my gmail account. What's also nice is how gmail threads the messages.

The only issue is privacy, so don't use gmail for sensitive information. Big Brother, Little Sister, and Evil Cousin are watching.

Why exactly are you guys giving these out? It's like an invite - but can someone just sign up on their own???

I've found it hard to get a decent email address at times in the past because the good ones get taken up quickly. Since Gmail is expected to be popular, I'm glad I was able to get the address I wanted.
