I suppose Max-life counts too, but I am curious who all runs a blend but not Max-life?

Why?
Which one?

I am gonna switch to syn-blend in all vehicles I care for soon for the cold flow advantage and to get "the best of both worlds" in my mind anyway. I am guessing Kendall & Trop-artic will be prevalent? I am gonna try Mystik blend.

I know it is probably GP-III blended in most syn-blends, but I am not one to run a boutique oil anyway so even when I used a full-syn I did not use a known GP-IV or V...

My Mom is using that now...quick lube got her for 50 something bucks but at least the ticket said Dura-blend on it.

I've run Motorcraft semi-syn for years with great results. Conoco refines and sells it. I believe Trop Artic and Kendall come from the same plant.

Man, you ruined it for me; I was already to put my plug in for Maxlife.

I don't think I've ever used a syn blend.. Aren't they "not much synthetic" in the blend traditionally?

For the price of a good deal on syn, I probably wouldn't bother :p

They're about 20% full synthetic.

Best bang for buck IMO is to make your own syn blend and stick to same Brand and rating. Years back I talked to an Esso Tech on making my own syn blend for my Cummins diesel and other gassers using Esso XD3 15-40 dino CI-4/SL and Esso XD3 0-40 CI-4/SL POA full syn. He fully agreed doing any ratio syn to dino I wanted, this gives me full control on syn content and price on the blend.

I find many syn blends reflect the price of 50/50 blend but one only gets the 20% syn in these pre blended versions, I buy my syn oil for $6.00 litre and dino for $3.00 litre, on a 50/50 blend for $4.50 per litre and I know what I am getting in value. On my 12 litre Cummins sump I could easily go 33/66, 50/50, 66/33 syn to dino.

The Tech suggested not to mix different brands and ratings of any oil.

Actually I would say Motorcraft Syn-Blend would be the most prevalent. I know it's made by Conoco like the others you mentioned but the 5w20 jugs in Wally World at a great everyday price have made it a leader. Easy to find.

I've primarily used it in an 01 Civic since new. In the early days of 5w20, MC was the first 5W20 I could find at Wally for DIY, without having to get dealer oil. I liked the idea of them stepping up and advertising it as a syn-blend. Because of all the rebates on synthetic I'm not currently running it, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it again in the future. Good stuff.

Son does run MC 5w20 in his Explorer exclusively, at least his Ford dealer tells him that's what they're using.

When I hurt my back and couldn't do my own oil changes, I used a local place by my house.

They used a Kendall blend and it seemed to do very well. I would have no hesitation to use it again (other than they charge too much).

I can do it much cheaper myself - and use a better oil filter.

I've got a decent sized stash of Trop-Artic blend because a local store puts on a monthly sale and has it for $1.69 or less a quart. It's really very close to Motorcraft oil.

I have used syn-blend only because I had purchaced a couple of qt on a discount shelf for less than .75cents. I think of syn-blends as nothing more than a good dino.

I do mix 2 qts of syn w/3 qts of dino and make my own blend and they're[the mix] is almost never of the same brand name and often the grades are different(not always!). I try to stay with 2qts of 5w30 syn but, the dino could be a mix of 5&10W30 for summer or 5W20&30 winter.

Just from what i read here at BITOG.Unless you run SSO,HDD,Redline, etc and some of the European synthetics we in the U.S. are all running a blend by default, even with most of the so called full synthetics.
The "Blend" is nothing more than advertising.

My guess would be if most of the companies in the U.S. had to practice truthful advertising it would read..
Full synthetic= Modified dino oil with a few synthetic components.
Blend= Dino oil with a little of that modified dino stuff above thrown in.

IMHO nothing more than a advertising farce designed to get more of your money.

^^BIG 2nd!!!!!

Hmmm.....I'm pretty sure Durablend runs a 70/30 blend (only company that does)

That said, I picked up some citgo based Service Pro oil for a 1.49....

I have some Durablend, which I only bought because there have been some good UOAs on here with it, and it ended up being dirt cheap, since it was on clearance, and Valvoline has a nice MIR.
I also have some Maxlife, if I can suppose that counts.
If I never planned ahead, and only bought oil as I needed it to do a change, I would probably look hard at Motorcraft, since it seems like a great performer for the money.
Nice 10K UOA of the stuff in a Toy V-8 just posted.

Now that Motorcraft 5w20 is cheap(er) again, I have a stash of it accumulating for my Taurus. I think it will be the main diet from now on until she dies.
