Decided to use the pup5w20 on the girlfriends new to here 2012 ford fusion and the crown Vic has had syn blend all its life with no leakage or problems. So I am shopping for opinions on the synthetic blends out there. Pennzoil gold,Motorcraft,Kendall, or any others u know of. Thanks oh think it's going to be 5w30 too

I like TropArctic (when I can get my hands on it.)
The Motorcraft is similar to the TropArctic and is more readily available.
Kendall is also good if you can find it.

best blend?

The one you make yourself.
I used to mix two litres of syn, and two of conventional on my Rabbit years ago. (usually sticking with the same manufacturer and grade).

Usually when purchasing those "blends" you have no way of knowing the percentages.

Motorcraft performed as well as Mobil 1 in a taxi test. Taxi service is not the same as a daily driver but at least it's an indicator that Motorcraft is at least a very good oil.

Ford pushes 10k between oil changes from the factory on their Motorcraft semi-blend, I'd take that with a grain of salt but it's another vote of confidence. Not bad stuff at all.

Take Valvoline Maxlife into consideration as well. Great additive package in that if I'm not mistaken.

My personal favorites are the Motorcraft synthetic blend, Pennzoil Gold & Valvoline MaxLife/DuraBlend

Motorcraft is 60% Group III synthetic & Ford has confidence in this oil out to 10,000 miles in some cases. I believe it's an excellent oil.

Pennzoil Gold is a 50/50 blend, I used to run it in a couple of my Ford's & it was always excellent. I followed the OLM to 7,500-10,000 on this oil. Typical Pennzoil quality!

Valvoline MaxLife & DuraBlend are 30-40% synthetic. MaxLife is obviously the high mileage version, but you'll have nothing but good results using it in an engine of any age or mileage. DuraBlend is difficult to find at reasonable cost in my area. MaxLife is basically DuraBlend + high mileage additives. I've had multiple good experiences with MaxLife & had a couple runs of DuraBlend in the '12 F-250 when it had 10,000-20,000 miles.

I agree with you all on Motorcraft. I've been running Pennzoil Synthetic blend in my lady's Camry for awhile now. I'm going to get the Motorcraft 5w30 and run it next with a Wix filter. Car51 has given me some insights on Motorcraft that has made this an easy decision.

I use Pennzoil Synthetic Blend / Gold 5w30 in two GM 5.3 pickups, a V-10 Ford motorhome, and in a Chrysler Town and Country minivan.

That's one oil for me, a 6 cylinder, 8 cylinders, and a 10 cylinder... all made by different manufacturers.

The best syn blend for me is the one I mixed myself. That way I know that I'm getting a 50% mix all the time. I usually use equal parts of Mag1 5w30 conventional and 5w30 fully synthetic and run it for 7500 miles. And I top up with the fully syn.

Well, as you can see in my signature, I run a wide variety. Hahaha If I had to choose one oil to use in all vehicles, it would be Pennzoil Platinum. If I had to choose one synthetic blend, Motorcraft. I maintain all these vehicles so I like to try different things.

I don't know what is the best, but the two I like are:
- Valvoline DuraBlend / MaxLife
- Castrol Magnatec

I have often thought or rolling my own. A 50:50 mix of full mineral and a full synthetic from the same company, and of the same weight (or close). I think keeping to the same brand would be important, so the add packs are similar and hopefully work together. You could also consider one of these oils being a high zinc race oil, so your finished semi-synthetic is higher than most in zinc, without being too much.

How do you knowvthese percentages, have a link to share?

I would use whatever oil had a DEXOS rating on the bottle. I know some people dislike GM for how they handle the rating but in all honesty, is a pretty good set of specs.

I usually use a synthetic oil from Valvoline, NAPA, Mobil 1 & Pennzoil. I'm not a fanboy of any brand but if I were to use a blend I would go with Pennzoil Gold.
