If I had your car, I'd do the same, im gonna have me an E46 M3 someday soon, or maybe one like yours, I love 'em.

Thank you

Yes, the E46 M3 is an extremely nice car as well, you really can't go wrong with this era of BMW in terms of driving enjoyment, really engaging and a pleasure to drive.

I too enjoy the challenge of driving through tough weather now-and-again. Hearing the gears shift and the noise of your engine out on the open road is awesome. The relationship between man and his vehicle is truly a special one.

I can beat that by dropping the top.
Shifting the gears yourself is also more fun.

If I had to go in a convertible with the top down I'd just as soon stay home(in 47 years of owning vehicles I've bought one as a parts car)... Sticks are OK but not the fun they were prior to my left knee giving me problems on/off for the last 25 years...

I enjoy driving and long road trips. Contrary to most here, I enjoy driving more in my RX300 than I ever did in my M3 or my A4.

I dislike it where I live, our roads are in poor condition and full of idiots.

I've got a 90km round trip commute and don't mind it too much. Most of it is 80km/h two lane that is not busy, so its pretty painless. I still like driving, like eljefino, the technical details are good to manage, and the odd hard corner is good too.
I really like autocross and track days though, the freedom to really go as fast as you can is much better than driving semi fast on the street IMO. Why more people don't do autocross atleast is a mystery to me.
Road trips are good too, but a little more complicated now with 2 kids.

So stop and go traffic is a rare thing for me now.

^This, Heavy traffic in big cities is no fun.

I love to drive on good roads. If I have time, I will take a 500 mile detour to spend a few hours in the mountains. I prefer manual transmissions unless the car is really fast. I can enjoy driving just about any vehicle if the roads are nice.

I used to average 40-50k a year, now I average much less. The first car I took through deals gap was a '91 Escort GT - I have been hooked ever since. Up until this last year I would make do 4+ trips a year to deals gap in a car, and would do 800 miles plus in less than a week in the surrounding areas. I would leave when I either ran out of time, or my brakes or tires had just enough meat left to make the 10 hour drive home.

Do you enjoy your driving?
I am blessed with a 25 mile each way commute that involves mostly uncongested two lane with plenty of passing opportunities should I wish to go fast.
I find the drives to and from work restful and enjoyable, as I do most driving.
I also enjoy the challenge of a nasty winter's drive, which we have here at least a couple of times each winter, sometimes for days at a time.
The only driving I really dislike is when I'm stuck in traffic just inching along, which is even less fun when I'm driving a stick.
Overall, though, I enjoy the driving I do.
One may as well, as much of it as most of us have to do.
How about you?

I make an an identical drive, and employ the same techniques. My DD is the maxima, 5 speed, 3L DOHC V6, 4 wheel discs and 235/45ZR17. I love driving, and I love driving my car.

If I had to drive a metro I would hate life.

LOL mustang wheel

back to topic, no I do not enjoy driving, take 40 min stuck in traffic to get to 20 min away.

Tastes obviously vary.
I bought the BMW specifically because I wanted a ragtop daily driver for summer use.
A hundred mile drive home from Columbus with the top down on a hot summer afternoon is bliss to me.
We bought the Forester, an automatic, largely because my wife's left knee began to bother her, so she no longer wanted to drive a stick on a daily basis.

I enjoy driving generally, as long as traffic is smooth, road conditions are good, and I'm not in a rush. I feel lucky to live on the central coast of CA, where there isn't too much traffic and there are plenty of good roads.

The car makes a big difference too, obviously. I prefer cars with a bit of a "workhorse" quality to them. They need to feel at least rugged enough that you don't feel bad getting them dirty or exposing them to all the hazards the road presents. Just less to worry about.

As part of my job, I have to test drive cars. Cars I have driven include a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO, a 1958 Ferrari Testa Rossa 'Pontoon Fender', Bugattis, Shelby Cobras, Lamborghinis, Jags, Porsches (including 8 959s), BMWs, and more.

My specific instructions are to drive them harder than their owners ever would to ensure they are road worthy.

I would be lying if I said this wasn't a major part of why I took this job.

You really do this as a part of your job?
I'd be lying if I didn't admit to a significant amount of envy.

Ding, ding, ding! Winner!

Me too. Lousy roads, stoplights every block (or so it seems), morons behind the wheels of jacked-up, seen-their-best-days vehicles with booming stereos assaulting my ears = little fun. Getting out of town is not always an improvement either, not in Loozyana.

When I lived in Denver, on Saturday and Sunday mornings I'd hop in the 420SEL -- and cruise to a new part of town, or one I'd been before that I liked; or up into the mountains. That big car and I rolled over half of eastern CO and parts of northern NM. To this day I count my trip back to New Orleans, via I-25 and then the old Federal highways to just north of Dallas, as one of the great drives of my life.

Likewise. I love the whole spectrum.

Plus we have very rural roads out here where triple digits endangers no one but yourself and maybe a cow...

My daily commute is like death race 2000. 60 miles a day, round trip, a whole bunch of stop and go, stop, stop, crawl, GO GO GO, slam on brakes, slow...GO...STOP...GO...STOP. Then crawl.

There are some fun parts of the road, but it's a beat down.

When I'm not commuting, I love driving.

I love driving. I usually like to drive for vacations even if it is fairly far because I enjoy the drive and taking the back roads to go somewhere and seeing places I haven't gone before. I enjoy all things mechanical and like the feel I get when driving.
