I was goofing off in the desert today and wound up in Hinkley,Ca. BTW this is the town that the movie Erin Brokovich was about. No I did not drink the water.

They have a small store there so I stopped to grab a Coke.

Wandered around a few minutes and in the back between the City Star oil and the Crack pipes they had a stack of oil filters.

I found the one that will fit my Jeep so I bought it. It was $3.49

It's a Carlube Lubemans Choice #M4670. The Purolater # for my Jeep is #14670 so they are basing their #'s off of Purolaters numbers.

The can is real thick like a Mobil-1 and the filter is very heavy. The threaded end is shrink wrapped to keep it sealed.

No where on the filter or box does it have a country of origin.

Stamped on the top is "water tested 10/16/09". The bypass valve hangs down from the closed end.

Has manufactured & certified by qs9000/iso9002 system on the box.

I wonder if it's Chinese?

shoulda bought two so you could cut one open!

w/ a quick google search i found www.carlube.co.uk, a UK based brand of motor oil, and other fluids. though can't find mention of filters...

interestingly (to me anyhow) when i used their tool to recommend an oil for MY car('05 Dodge Neon), after changing the brand to Chrysler(which is how they were sold there), it recommended their semi-syn 10w40! here they were spec'd for 5w30 most yrs, and my '05 5w20.

I tried to squeeze the filter to try to bend it. not going to happen it's tough. the instructions say to tighten it 1 full turn with a wrench vs are american filters that say no wrench.

That should be real good for the inside of the filter.
