As I mentioned in another thread on here, I've noticed that there aren't too many GTX UOAs on this board at all, so I was wondering how many people are running this oil and will you be posting any UOAs on it anytime soon?

I think I have decided that GTX 5w30 will be the oil that is going into my wife's Honda in the spring (I know I've flip flopped around on my decision a lot, but I think this is it, maybe)

GTX seems to be a big seller in Canada, but on here it doesn't seem to be very popular, at least in terms of UOAs posted anyhow.

I've been using GTX in my Toyota V6 pickup for about 8 yrs. I would do a UOA, the need to add a quart every 1500 miles probably wouln't make it worth it.

I just remembered that I use GTX 5w-20 in my in-law's Tribute. I'm gonna do a UOA after break-in. It has about 5,000 miles on it now. Actually, now may be a good time to do one, and compare results later. OK, you talked me into it.

i've used gtx 5w-30 in my 2005 subaru ,it has 28,000 miles.i have a friend with a 2001 hyundai accent with 120,000 miles that has only used gtx 10w-30 since new and it uses no oil, runs like new.

Patman i cant belive what i am reading , why are you switching from your beloved German Castrol????????? I am in SHOCK.

Actually that happened already, I switched her Honda over to Syntec 5w30 on it's last oil change since I felt the thicker GC probably isn't the best match to her 1.6L Honda engine. Then when I got the UOA and started comparing it to previous results, I realized that doing one year intervals with synthetic isn't the best thing for her driving style and so I have since decided that doing 5k intervals with conventional oil is a better way to go (this method is working well for many people on here). This also works out to two oil changes per year instead of one, so I can run one interval through the winter, then get a fresh start in the spring. Her winter UOAs were always worse than the summer ones, so it's best to split up the intervals in this car.

I'm still running GC in my Corvette, although now that my supply is nearing the end, and I've gotten a taste of trying different oils, it gave me the itch to start with something fresh in that car too, so I have bought some PP 5w30 for the Corvette, and it'll go in the car in the spring. The rest of my GC stash will go into my dad and mom's car now. (and I'll keep both of their cars on this oil, switching to the gold when the green supply is gone)

I'm using Castrol GTX 5W-30 plus Fram XG on my 1996 Isuzu Oasis (Honda Odyssey). It has 153,152 mi on it. I've used AC delco, Fram (oh no

), Supertech, or Bosch oil filters on it, but GTX as the oil since I've had it. I bought it used back in 2001 with 55K on the odometer.

I've got a few cases of GTX in teh stash and have run a UOA on GTX in my Toyota.

The Pennzoil UOA was a little better, but both oils performed well.

Here is the GTX UOA 3.3k UOA for GTX

I still don't know if LC caused the Iron to spike up but did not use LC in the Pennzoil run (it was longer by 1600 miles) and even though the Pennzoil UOA was in the winter, the Iron was a third of the GTX.

Here is the Pennzoil run Pennzoil UOA

I'm going to be doing a UOA on my current oil (changing the oil tomarrow) and this time I think I may spring for a TBN just to see how the oil is doing.. ( geez, the UOA plus TBN cost me the same as SIX oil changes incl filters on the car..

)

I should forget the TBN (and UOA) , run 2 OCis of GTX for you Patman and then do a UOA on the 2nd run!

Tell me and I'll do it!

I'll tell you that GTX is in the Truck for the 1st time and it has quieted the engine down over Chevron or Pennzoil. 5w-30 grade.

Take care, Bill

Well, I use GTX 20W-50 in my old Germans over the summer. The one currently being driven has Pennzoil 10W-40 in it. The cars seem happy with the GTX.
For the Honda, why not just go with two changes a year on PP? I'm not sure how pricing is in The Great White North, but it is cheap here, with AAP having BOGO every other month or so, it is only a tad more expensive per change than GTX, and has had some great UOAs.

PP was just on sale last week and it was $22.99 for a 5 quart jug. When on sale, GTX would end up being about $12 for a 4.4L jug. So it's quite a bit less. Besides, I am interested in trying out a conventional oil in her car.

Castrol GTX has been my oil of choice since the early 1970's. At the time, my friends who raced motorcycles used Castrol oils with good results, and since the price of GTX at the time was about the same as any of the other brand name oils I started using it too. I have had several new cars that used only GTX for their entire lives, with no oil related problems.

The most convincing demonstration of it's quality, to me, was when I removed the heads of my 1977 Subaru at 110,000 miles at 9 years of age and saw the condition of the cylinder walls! Like new with hone marks still visible, and no trace of any wear. That was with the use of 10-40 GTX from the first oil change, and mostly using Baldwin filters.

More recently, I used 10-30 GTX exclusively in 1987 Jeep for over 120,000 miles, and had been using 5-30 GTX in the new Nissan Frontier until I decided to try Syntec at the last oil change to see if it made any difference in the gas mileage. (Average mileage over 11 months has been 18.25) Will go back to GTX if I see no measurable improvement.

I had done a UOA on the factory fill of oil in the Nissan, and will post one if I switch back to GTX, which is probable, given that I see no dramatic improvement in mileage, so far, with the Syntec. Oil change interval on the Frontier has been 3700 to 3900 miles, with either OEM or Wix filters.

Of course, I am aware that the GTX of today is a very different oil than the oil of the '70's, but hopefully the quality leadership remains.

I also use GTX 20w-50 (in my old British) and it seems happy. GTX seems like a good quality dino oil and I'll probably continue using it.

In those years in which I put it on the road, I use 20W-50 GTX in my MGB. After all, "Castrol" was originally a brand of an old British company, called Burmah Oil.

I'll change the oil tomarrow and put in Castrol GTX 5w-30.

You want it with or without LC?

I'll get one 4-5k oci then do a 5k oci with uoa/tbn after.

Take care and Happy New Year!

I just reverted from Syntec Blend to 4 quarts of GTX/1 qt Syntec and have about another 2000 miles to go on a 6000 mile OCI before I send the oil in for a test. This is 5W-30 in a 2000 Honda Accord V6 with about 55K miles. Back inn "the day" I used to use 20W-50 GTX in my two old Land Rovers and before that in several MGs and one TR (yeah, I'm a glutton for punishment). One of the Land Rovers went 230K miles with only a couple of valve jobs and one ring job. No lower end work required and it was operating room clean inside at teardown for the ring job.
