Exactly.

If you don't "get it" then a Harley is not the bike for you. Ride whatever makes you smile and don't worry about why us Harley riders ride what we ride.

Harleys not the bike for me whether I "get it" or not.

Of all your goofy generalizations, misrepresentations and rhetoric, that one probably takes the cake. Like I said the corresponding opposite to this bashing does not exist, or if it does it would just be a passing comment. There are entire web sites dedicated to your positions on this subject set up by people who feel as you do. You should visit those and feel right at home. The opposite covnersations just don't happen anywhere I go. If I were sitting around with some riding buddies having a beer and tried to start a anti brand x conversation it would result in a lot of funny looks and no conversation of the sort. Why waste the time? What is the point of such a topic? Who cares? I could start a thread on the Suzuki Ardvark but why? I don't have one and I don't care. Pretty much have to go with PT1 on this one. Professional counciling might be in order. Someone / something must have really hurt your feelings.

You've said that twice and it just doesn't work. Up until about seven years ago I had two HDs and an XJ-700 in my garage. The Yamaha could not find time on the riding rotation so I sold her to a friend. But when I did ride it I NEVER had negative encounters. In fact sometimes just the opposite with comments like "Hey nice, I had one of those". So I don't have blinders, I have had metrics, and I do encounter a lot of Harley owners. But with your charm and tendency to insult and desire to spit on people...well....

Wrong again. I never, I repeat NEVER say anything derogatory about anyone's bike, not even jokingly, unless 1) I know the person or 2) they say something derogatory about my bike FIRST. Any flaming that comes my way from Harley owners is completely unprovoked......unless of course they're intimidated by my bike.....

I went riding this summer with a buddy on a Fat Boy, another on a Kawasaki Vulcan and me on the Valkyrie. Whenever a crowd of usually non bikers would come by and look over the bikes, they spent most of the time looking over the Valkyrie. So, from my experience, Harleys might draw a crowd back at the trailer park but out in the real world, they're not so impressive. Most of the women I've seen on a Harley by the way should be wearing full face helmets. Not just for safety reasons either.

That's the problem with the majority of Harley riders. They're delusional. And the rest of us are just plain goofy to think that we'll ever get them to recognize it.

I say, accept them for what they are. Let them carry on with their masquerade and enjoy the show. Hey! It's free entertainment.

By the way, I have a Kawasaki KLR650 as well that weighs in around 400 lbs. Why would a 750 lb. Fat Boy use the same size rear tire as a KLR? doesn't that seem a bit small for a machine that heavy. the Valkyrie and Vulcan rear tires are huge by comparison.

geez, must be winter for some of you folks

me, i'm riding my HARLEY to work every day

dont you get it ?

ride, don't snivel about someone elses mo'sikle

If you have to ask you just do not get it. why do you ride? it's love of riding for me. some think one is better then another.that is there choice. your just RIDING. some ride a hd because they think it's makes them cool or it makes them better and bad. I call them weekend wonders.with there doo rages and 80lbs of leather on a hot day. they do it because they think there are cool. i have an old hd (33 years) and i love the sound!all stock and you are right it,s not the best ride(also like the sound of holly 4 barrel and cat trucks)but on a cool fall day or night it's such a pleaser, for me it is the joy of riding.and i hope to be able to ride for alot of years.

Maybe that's why I catch so much flack from Harley owners. I've noticed whenever my bike is parked near or around other bikes, it draws more attention than any of the other bikes, Harleys or otherwise. It has a 250mm rear tire that looks bad as [censored] and that seems to be the first thing that attracts the attention, then they start getting into the looks of the rest of the bike. If it's parked near any Harleys, including V-Rods, my bike gets all the attention and it probably pi$$es 'em off.

Harleys have become the cookie-cutter bikes

I personally think the only good looking Harley isn't really a Harley at all, it's a Porsch.

If you want a unique motorcycle you have to buy something other than a Harley.

Victory. They're built better than a Harley AND they're designed and built using today's technologies (not those from WWII).

If you want to be just another cow in the herd, buy a Harley. If you want to be unique, buy something else.

The WWII, chrome plated anvil design and technology does nothing for me.

100 is a good starting point. Let's RACE! First one to let off loses.

Making statments in a forum thread intended to discuss these very things is hardly the same as making a derogatory statement to another rider on the street just out of the blue.

"The V-Rod is a Porsch with a Harley badge on it."

What is a Porsch? Can I buy a bike at the "Porsch" dealer? Did Porsche build the engine or just assist with the design of it? Did Porsche build the frame, trans, body work, forks, etc.?

FWIW, maybe the V-Rod is a Porsche

as you would call a bike built by one manufacturer with an engine partially designed by another. I personally didn't really care for it. It felt too much like one of the big-four Japanese bikes but I have no problem at all with anyone who owns one. If they like it that's all that matters. More power to 'em.

Right. Its cowardly when the person is not standing right there.

Iknow it's not fair. My bad. It was just so easy though I couldn't resist.

I've been wondering about that whole Porch thing as well but didn't want to get involved in yet another tangent. I drive by the plant in Kansas City but didn't know they were making them on the porch. Seems like a waste of a perfectly good plant to me.

Any one with a keyboard and access to the internet can find that Porsche and Harley have had a relationship for decades. Porsche was the perfect fit for a Revolution development partner as they were in the process of converting the 911 from air to liquid and the HD VR1000 had already provided s starting point to build on. Since Porsche participated it is bad. If HD did it, it would be bad. If martians participated it would be bad. Because everything with this guy concerning HD is bad, bad, bad. But that's really here nor there.

The important thing is that we start a threat to find companions that will aid us in making derogatory comments about the vehicles that others purchase so that we may feel good about ourselves.

"Right. Its cowardly when the person is not standing right there."

Get ready, the "I beat you up." part is getting close. Let's see which side of the argument throws the first "I kick you a$$".

As far as foreign involvement goes, well, it's pretty hard for any manufacturer to deny it. Personally, for North American manufacturers, it's a good thing. It's hard not to accept the fact that any engines made in Japan are far superior to what we produce. Technologically they better, they're built to closer tolerances, they're more reliable and fuel efficient and competitively priced.

I won't buy an North American product with a domestic engine in it. Take Arctic Cat for instance. As long as they use Suzuki engines and power trains, I'll buy them. I already own two late model Arctic Cat ATVs with Suzuki engines. I wouldn't touch one with their home built engines. Particularly their Blunder Cats!

A stock Harley is an OK bike. Not a great bike, but alright if that's what you're into. However, it seems that when one gets royally gouged by paying the ridiculous price off the shop floor, they automatically think they've purchased a ticket to the "elite motorcyclist club". I suspect that during the "sucking in" process, the dealers bore a one inch hole in their skulls, pump out a good portion of their brains and pump in a couple gallons of Willie G. slogans and propaganda. Hey, they have to make you feel good about mortgaging the trailer to put a down payment on the bike, right?

The bottom line is that for one reason or another, HD riders like to create the illusion they've bought into something special and if you haven't had your a$$ gouged like them, you don't rate. It's obvious to the point of being obnoxious to some an hilarious to many more. Personally I love them. The entertainment is endless. Nothing funnier than a HD side show down at the donut shop!

I love this stuff!!! Mr Boraticus speaks the truth. I'll ride with anyone and very much like HD bikes for their purpose but I have seen exactly what you describe. I would LOVE to have a USA made sports bike but now that Buell is gone it may never happen.

Most HD riders and motorcycle riders in general are a nice bunch but its the few #@*&%?! on both sides that I can do without.

I own and ride (daily) a 2009 Road King Classic. I own it, not because of what it sybolizes or because of it's heritage/tradition, but because I think it looks, sounds, and feels great. I'm not at all into the Harly lifestyle. I have no other friends that ride Harley's (or any other bikes, for that matter). I don't belong to any motorcycle club, and rarely go to any bike shows or events.

I just love riding motorcycles. And I'm a big buy, so riding a small bike is out of the question. The Road King fits me perfect. Plus I love the feel of the rumble. I do NOT have aftermarket pipes, and I don't like them. In fact, it really irritates me when a loud bike (or car) rumbles by my house, rattling my windows.

I'm probably in the minority of HD riders, but that's who I am.

I guess I missed that footnote in the etiquette handbook. Does it also provide for spitting on and shooting people who don't agree with your product / make decisions?

I'd just as soon spit on these people as give them the time of day.

I'd have hunting season all year on Harleys and have a shotgun aiming at the street if I had my way.

I have not heard anything of the sort from non-metric owners despite your buddy's constant invitations.
