Who doesn't like HM oils and why?

non energy conserving? i think you should go with 10w30 for the summer and 5w30 for the winter.. keep it simple. or really you could just pick one. i am serious, its syn so its going to leave a good film on the walls and whatnot when you crank it. so chose what makes you fell comfortable and go with it

I'm thinking (although I could be wrong) that it will be fine in the winter. Even though it is 10/30 and non-enerry.
The Mobil tech said it will flow 6-7 times faster than any conventional 10/30 so if what he is saying is true, I should run with it.

As a rule of thumb, 10wXX oil is supposed to be good to zero F. By running synthetic you have an extra margin of safety. Don't worry about wind chill, it only affects beings, not inaminate objects. Wind will cause it to cool faster, but once it reaches ambient temp, that's it.

The only proof on how it works repeatedly in new engines is a finding a volunteer here at BITOG - to use it from around 3K to at least 200K on the odometer ...NONSTOP.

Until then - I remain skeptical for use in vehicles from birth to old age/death.

Well, I think Frank of Auto-RX said that HM oils are not good if you are using Auto-RX. I like Auto-RX so that is 1 reason I might not use a HM oil.

Also, a HM oil may reduce fuel econemy somewhat.

I have not noticed ANY reduction in fuel economy with using Maxlife synthetic 10w30 versus regular Havoline 10w30; in fact, my mpg have actually increased, AND the truck is 2yrs older then it was at the time of the Havoline.

I'm using Maxlife in a '97 vehicle with 174k miles simply because the truck runs real good on it; it has no leaks, no oil usage, etc. I simply tried the oil, period, and the truck likes it; seemingly better then the Havoline it ran from birth.

Given this, I'm not 100% comfortable using other HM oils, OR using the Maxlife from birth to older age, simply because I haven't experimented with that. BUT, who's to say any other oil from birth to old age would be any better - one could still develop oil leak issues, on ANY oil.
