I have a 2008 Dodge Caliber with 2,0L 4 cylinder. I bought 5 Napa Gold 7060 off ebay. they are white cans. they all say 7060. 2 of the five have bypass in front, old fashioned style metal with spring. 3 of them have new silicone combo valve up front, which i thought was only on napa pro select filters. i asked Wix and they aonly told me that napoa gold are white too, and that Wix builds the napa gold and carquest red to same OEM specs and have same warranty as Wix and napa golds......in other words, the filters are all very much the same.

yes. in blue, say 7060. and 3 of them have the new combovalve up front. i assumed this was only on proselect filters but i guess the design is good enough for Golds....
i put a proselect on my dad's 91 mercury..looks like a solid filter too. i wonder if the Golds are a marketing scam???

I work for a chain of Napa stores since 1990 so here goes: It is an "urban myth" that all Napa Gold filters are black. Most of the popular car & light truck are black but not all. If the filter is new, also used on industrial/hd applications, or slow moving, it usually is painted white & uses painted labels. Golds are NOT a marketing scam! Once a filter becomes faster selling, Wix starts painting them black and uses a Napa Gold label. It does cost Wix more money to paint & label them black so overall sales volume comes into play. Does anyone mind the rubber/silcone combo valve up front? it;'s on my dad's 1515 pro select, and it's on a few of these 7060 Golds i have....foes it work?
I am impressed with NAPA, carquest, and Purolator. great build quality

ZeeoSix-the reasoning is cost. It is cheaper for Wix to paint them white(can be used on Wix, Napa, or Carquest side) and then just paint the part number along with the brand name.
It costs more money to paint the filter black and then apply a Napa Gold branded adhesive label. Napa is willing to pay more for the black branding on popular car & light truck filter applications. It helps build the Napa Gold brand name.
Since industrial/ag/hd users could really care less if the filter is painted black with adhesive label vs plain white w/painted lable, Wix uses the cheaper way of white w/painted label on those applications.

Likely nitrile(rubber) not silicone, and while some have no complaints, can't say it's the most positively accepted design here. Most, including myself, prefer a separate thread or dome end metal spring bypass.
