What about one of those Craftsman rubber strap wrenches? That could be threaded around & put back in handle for a filter you couldn't fit a closed loop over.

It looks great, but the link says it only goes up to 3 1/8. The PF 1177(ST 3950) for my Jap truck is 3 3/4'' Back to the Channelocks. The strap style looks like more bother than it is worth where you have a very short swing.quote:
