Hey everyone, new to the site. I have a 2006 nissan frontier,4.0 v6, 116,000 miles. Have always ran Castrol GTX 10w30 conventional, was considering moving to a synthetic but dont really know which one would be best for my application. Any help would be appreciated, Oh yea Iusually do oil changes in the 3 to 4k range but wouldnt mind stretching them out some.thanks inadvance

If you're going to move to a synthetic or even semi-synthetic, you should be able to hit the 5000 mile mark easily (unless you are doing a lot of heavy towing/hauling).
I would tell you to run whichever 5w30 synthetic is on sale. All of the name-brands are pretty good and I doubt you'll see any differences.

I would use a quality High Mileage oil like Defy or Maxlife. You have a higher mileage engine and both oils are semi syn and have stout add packs. I would run them for 5-6k and enjoy!
Probably a silly question, but why dont you just stay with the GTX?

You can jump to a syn-blend High Mileage oil and get a stouter add pack out of the deal, for only 2 bucks more an OCI. Should be able to easily do 5-6k on them. Maxlife and Castrol GTX High Mileage both would fit the bill I'd think.
He wants to stretch the interval if possible and too be honest if the sump on that is the same size as my Pathfinder diesel then it is probably 7/8 litres and this using synthetic or Semi Synthetic you can go up to 10k easily enough. I think there was a 4.0 option on UK Pathfinders and Navaras(UK Frontier) I will try to find the OCI, and specific oil specs though I would think 5w30 is about right.
Did some research and it has a 5.1 litre sump and should take a 5w40 A3/B4, 10w40 A3/B4 or 0w40 A3/B4.
OCI is 9k miles or 12months.
I would run Full Synthetic to the full 9k, or extend subject to UOA, I would suspect you could run as long as 20/25k if you bought the appropriate Amsoil oil.

And I forgot Defy was a blend, so is Mobil Super HM forgot it too.

I run Mobil 1 5w30 in my 2007 Frontier. It has about 47,000 miles on it now. Runs fine on that and since I am really out of warranty, I go longer than the 3,750 miles for severe service that Nissan demands for warranty coverage. I go about 5000 or a bit more right now.
Two things to watch for on your Frontier.
1. The nylon timing chain tensioners wear out and have to be replaced. You'll hear a high pitched whine. If you don't replace them, the cain eats through them and hits metal and ....big bucks. Had mine done under warranty around 37,000 miles.
2. The transmission fluid cooler in the radiator can crack, letting coolant into the tarnny. Symptom of this is a bucking motion at steady speeds. Only real cure is to replace the entire auto transmission and the radiator, around $4000-5000. Nissan has exp\tended the warranty but I think you are past the extended warranty.

I think Mobil 1 5w30 would work nicely too and be a bit of a step up from conventional GTX. You can find it anywhere.
