Which push mower has the most powerful engine?

First off, pushing a mower on your tiny yard should be no real problem.
Second, unless there is some ordinance that prohibits it in your part of the state, Mrs grampi could do a midweek mow while you're away at work.
Finally, a bigger hammer isn't always the answer.
I mowed around 20K sq feet of knee high grass last week using a closeout $75.00 mower, first cut of what we consider the bad part of the backyard this season.
The cheap little thing with its cheap little 125cc OHV Briggs never died and used a little less than a quart of fuel in the process.
It isn't the machine so much as it is the user in most cases.

This time of the year the yard should really be mowed twice a week because the grass grows so fast, but unfortunately, I can't be there to do it. What I'm left with is 6 inch high grass that has to be mowed while I'm home on the weekends regardless of the weather. This means many times I'm either mowing in the rain, or mowing wet grass. I believe if I could find a walk behind mower with at least a 300cc engine, that would provide enough power to go through this thick, heavy, and sometimes wet grass. However, I have never seen any walk behind mowers with this much motor...

You need to do 2 or 3 things in your situation.

Ensure your mulching blades are always sharp if you aren't already.

Set the deck height to its highest setting and mow your whole lawn once there, then mow again at a lower setting-you should never be cutting more than 1/3 of the length of the grass in a single pass. If your grass is 6" and you want to cut it down to 3" you will need to mow twice.

If you have a 20/21/22/24" mower deck and you insist on mowing 6" tall grass and mulching it you simply must mow a narrower strip than the mower is wide. Do not mow the full width every pass-mow half at most, 12" or so.

My first lawnmower was one of them 2 cycle Lawnboys. Bought it about 35 years ago at a garage sale for 30 dollars. It was the best lawnmower I ever owned. Almost impossible to stall that thing out.

Looks like my first new lawnmower, purchased in 1985. I clearly recall the dealer telling me that it had to run on a 32:1 mix and not to use 16:1.

I ran that mower as my primary for 10 years at over 50 hours per year before relegating it to backup and rough service duty. Rough service means chopping 1/2 inch diameter saplings as I slowly expanded the lawn. About ten years into that plan, the new 4-stroke threw a rod, so the Lawn-boy went back into mainline service for a few months. I eventually junked it after 30 years of service, but I have to believe that that mower would have run 40-50 years with a little more TLC. That being said, I certainly do not miss inhaling the exhaust of a 32:1 2-cycle machine.

The Honda engine on this mower (160cc) is great for reliability, but it just doesn't have enough power for my yard. Our grass is super thick and rarely dries out completely and the 160cc engine just doesn't have enough power to handle it without bogging down and quitting. I need a mower with at least a 10 hp engine, as these typical 4-5 hp engines just don't cut it, but I can't seem to find anything this powerful. Does such a mower even exist?
