Hi guys! I have an 05 cadillac cts with 94k miles approx. and I wanted to do a p/steering flush by myself. I went to the dealership and asked for couple of qts of the recommended p/s fluid for my car. The gave me the AcDelco P/S fluid number 89021183.

In my owner manual, it says to use only the AcDelco p/s fluid number 89021184 if US or 89021186 if in Canada. I asked the guy maybe 4 or 5 times if he was sure he gave me the right one because the one I have in my car right now is kinda red and the one he gave mw its kinda amber in color. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of cadillac dealer around here

If someone can help me with that before I do the flush! Tks!

Hate2work, thank you, I already posted it there and no one seems to know. I think this site is more for tuning the cars more than fixing it but its a very good forum.

And btw, your nickname makes me laugh a lot!

OK, no problem. In case you missed it, the links I posted are for two different forums :)

I'm glad you like my nick, it's not really true but I wish it was

thanks a lot! Now last question hehe:

if you were myself, would you trust the GM part number from the owners manual or what 2 dealership suggest?

I'm just asking because the power steering system is very expensive and I really dont want to mess it up.

Q: How can I contact General Motors of Canada?

ACD power steering fluid must be top secret. The only AC Delco power steering fluid listing I found is here;
http://www.goodwrench.com/PartsAccessories/EngineCareProducts.jsp

US number obviously, #89021184. Amber colored, and the only ps fluid listed. Its entirely possible the only Canadian # is the one you recieved with all other numbers superceded with 89021184 and 89021183.

Id go by part number unless there is documentation stating otherwise. It might be one of those 7.1 or 11.s fluids... not really sure.

I just wanna say thanks to you guys!

I did my own p/steering flush and now it is amber in color, no more dark brown with a little red tint.

I used what the owners manual said. The code that I received from the dealer was only the 1 qt code. The one in my owner manual was the 500ml.

For your info, I called General Motors Canada and asked which one to choose between the one written in the owners manual and the cold climate that one dealer wanted to sell me. They didn't know the answer.

So I called Ac Delco, customer services and a technician told me to never use the cold climate formula because it is too thin and they had to many problems with it. So I ended up using the ac delco regular formula and I'm very happy with the result.

My understanding of the 2 different fluids is one is for colder climates (Canada) That being said, I used their fluid for a flush in my 2005 silverado and started squeeling 2 months later. Flushed again, and things got beter for a few days, but sound came back. Read on these forms about using amsoil atf for powersteering fluid. I figured that a quart of atf is less than new pump, so I gave it a try. Its been 3 months and still no noise plus turns like a champ.
