In AUS the recommended change is every 12 months or 9,000 miles but I think in the US it's every 5,000 miles.

Would it be overkill to change my oil every 5,000 miles when i'm using PUP ? I want to make sure I look after my engine.

Didn't realize you're in AUS. I wouldn't consider it an issue at all. 5,000 miles is my sweet spot too. Sometimes i go a little longer, a little less. I've mostly used synthetics in the Sonata 2.4L.

Fleet Admin in Calif moved all light duty vehicles (less than 1-ton) to 6,000 miles for oil changes decades ago. Calif is similar climate to AUS. Deserts, dust, ocean fog, etc.

That's 10's of thousands of cars and light trucks of every sort running every dealer and Oil Stop (quick change) oil. No oil related failures that I know of ...

I personally ran some of these vehicles to well over 200,000 miles on Chevron Supreme XW-30. I'd suspect that yours would do the same with care, and keeping after the cooling system.

FAR more engine failures from loss of coolant than from oil related issues ...
