Hello,
I am a new poster here and this question has probably been asked before but I'll ask again. I own a 2000 F350 7.3l and want to run synthetic this winter. I live in central/northern Alberta (Edmonton area). As you know our winters can get cold. What weight Mobil Delvac1 should I purchase? - 5w40, 10w30? or is there another weight that is best?

Thanks
Ken

I would expect that 5w-40 D1 would be ome of the oils of choice for a PSD. That viscosity should be able to start a little easier than the 10w30. I would point out that Esso's excellent XD-3 0w-40 is as good or possibly better for a lot less money. Nothing at ALL wrong with the D1 but in Canada we have access to this highly regarded, cost-effective option of using XD-3. Something to consider.

John.

Thanks for the heads up on the XD3 Extra and the UFA Polar Plus. Imperial Oil (Esso) is the distributer for Mobil Delvac 1 in Edmonton so I can compare preices between the XD3 extra and Delvac 1. I have been running the regular XD3 15w40 foe the last 3 years (and would switch to XD3 10w30 in the winter) but want to go to synthetic this winter.

Also I will check out my local UFA as I am a member and get a lot of my ranching supplies there.

Thanks again

If you could, post a price for the UFA Polar Plus. (Not that I will be traveling to Alberta anytime soon, but I am curious.)

Also, if you decide to try it, consider some UOA testing. I am also curious to confirm that it's the same as the Esso XD-3 0w40.

Is John Deere 0w-40 the same as the Esso as well? I heard this rumored, but would like to know for sure. Others say that the JD oil is Group III.
