They might be all made by the same manf. but are they all made to the same spec's. Thats the question.

I would go with AC Delco above the others every time.

No. While the skeletons are the same Champ labs stuff, the filter media differ, reflecting the marketing goals of the particular brand. Are you looking for unexceptional performance but good overall, high flow, or maximum filtration?

EDIT -- I forgot to mention that the composition of the ADBV varies within the different Champ products as well.

Some years ago, Wal-Mart dropped my AC number. I didn't have BITOG at the time. Tried several brands including Fram. Took my hacksaw to a bunch of them. Fram, bad, AC, good, the rest, in the middle. Keep trying the different brands and cutting them open. See if you think it is worth the extra for the AC. Filter media area isn't everything, but you can measure it. Quality is much harder to evaluate, but I think the thicker, the better.

Quality of the filters varies from one number to another and from time to time. AC's may vary by the different sources. I can't say who made the ones I liked.

I wouldn't sweat the new plastic cores. They look a lot like the filter elements used in cartridge filters for several years now with no reported problems.

Now I recall that some time ago when I was looking over some of the many oil filter "studies" out on the net, that the AC was actually one of the better filters. Since it is a Chevy, the AC seems like a great way to go. Barring that, Purolator Premium Plus.

From the following filters what would you choose for the best filter, flow, ADBV and value...

Engine 262 Ci 4.3L W 151,000 miles...daily driver

STP @ $2.99 S3980
AC-Delco @ $3.99 PF52S
Bosch @ $5.99 3430
Mobil-1 @ $10.99 M1-201
K&N @ $12.99 HP-2001

I have ruled out Fram as I have been using them for about 5 years...now I want to switch...

I am leaning toward AC-Delco for the value but you guys have the experiences so your opinions are appreciated...

Thx

Those are all Champ filters. So just use either the STP or AC

Of course you can get the Valuecraft for $1.99 at autozone, again a Champ filter

Let me tell you what I do on a Corvette Z06. If you check, you will know all your picks and more are available for this high performance engine. I bought a slug (12 each)of AC Delco PF-44's at 2 dollars a pop. Champion Labs makes AC Delco and the WalMart Supertech (among others) which is also app 2 dollars. Since 12 each will last 15,000 miles per filter change, I will be looking at getting more filters at the 180,000 mile mark. I am now at 67,000 miles

Use a Purolator Premium Plus (Pep Boys often has 2 for $5). Excellent filters. It's a Chevy so it may be hard to look up, but Motorcraft has an edge on Purolator (which makes Motorcraft) because the bypass in Motorcraft is in the threaded end (for the ones I have seen anyway). Motorcraft is under $3 at Walmart.

Edit: I changed above from Pure One to Premium Plus, the lower priced Purolator, which I meant in the first place.

Personally I would run a Purolator Premium Plus and currently do, but since it's not on your list I choose my second choice which is the AC-delco.

Most importantly since they are all Champion Labs filter you certainly can't go wrong with any of them.

Don't be so sure that the AC filter you are getting today is anything like the last one you looked at. Since GM spun off their parts making group (Delphi) and Delphi no longer makes all, or maybe not even most of the AC branded filters. One never really knows anymore what will be in a given AC oil filter box. There are reports of mysterious Mexican made filters and more. GM is on a big cost saving push.

Purolator would be my first choice now in a low cost filter and Baldwin is my favorite mid-priced filter. Motorcrafts are also a good low cost filter when you can find one for your application. Ford only lists FoMoCo products in the Motorcraft applications guide on their website and in most parts places computers. Duh!

All that said. If I were forced to use only your list I would go for the Champ labs US made AC-Delco or a Delphi made AC Delco. None of the Mexican ones for me until they have a track record.

I don't know why some people blow AC filter's out of proportion. There are only two manufacturers for AC filters. Delphi and Champion, Champion are the ones you usually buy over the counter and Delphis are the factory ones. They are easily told apart and are both good filters either way.

The so called "fake" ACs turned out to be some old stock from a Champion distributor, and they also seem to be good filters, and they've only turned up at Advanced auto parts in a couple sizes.

The K&N, provided you can get them cheaper than that. I get them at Kragen for 9.95, and online for around 9 bucks. AC is a good filter, also.
