hey guys,

I am obviously not going to spend 10+ dollars for the 3 filters I will need to do my AutoRX cycle. So I am either going to buy Supertech, Wix, or Baldwin. The Baldwin is about 5 bucks and I don't know the Supertech price or the Wix.

-In addition... How important is it that I use an oversize filter during the AutoRX run? I don't run an oversize filter under normal circumstance, I just run a Mobil 1 M1-104...

Please advise,
Seth

On my Jeep (4.0), I used Napa Gold filters( as usual)normal size.
Actually, I did use a Purolator Premium Plus for the last ARX clean cycle.
Either of these filters is fine and I got them both for under $10...$5.99 for the Napa, and I think $3.99 for the Purolator.

thanks Mark. I am looking for I don't want to say "midgrade" because I know the Wix and Baldwin are great filters. So what i'm looking for is a filter that isn't 10+ dollars like the M1.

I was really just wondering if the Supertech quality was about the same as the Wix or Baldwin cause it is even cheaper and it is going to be a junker filter anyways for the AutoRX.

I can get the Baldwin B34 for $4.22 or the Baldwin B2 for $3.57 so if that is the way to go then i'll do that. The B2 is the oversize even.

Seems the Baldwin would surely be a little bit better than the Supertech and it is really cheap too. I'm going to get a price on the Wix...

If you decide to go with Balwdin, I would suggest taking a look inside the filter and make sure the inner sleeve/tube is not too short.

I recently purchased 2 Baldwin B31 oil filters and noticed this problem. Baldwin says has since been corrected and claims "no problem" in using the improperly made ones.

You spent the money for the Auto R/X what is the problem using a high quality filter to catch the crud ,especially on the rinse phase.

I do consider the Wix high quality the same with Baldwin... I just don't see paying 12 bucks for my M1-204 and taking it off so soon. It is a waste of money and I am in college and don't have a job so I gotta try to strech my money as far as possible.

Now I just need to decide if I want to get:

-Regular wix
-oversize wix
-regular baldwin
-oversize baldwin
-oversize baldwin with HPG
-regular supertech
-oversize supertech

This is a hard choice for me? Which would you go with? I just don't know how important the extra filter media in oversize is for the AutoRx'ing. I know I have the clear for a little more filter, i'm going to have to measure

I guess since it is a short OCI you wouldn't need a silicone ADBV, and you'd want a filter with more area. I'd say a purolator followed by am AC delco, both have lots of area.

look at the oil filter studies and you will see that the supertech filter from wallmart is a decent filter. I used it for my cleaning phase on my 99 TJ and plan to use one for the rinse too.

If you have a lot, I'd go oversize.

Bill,

I'd doubt there is any... I bought the Jeep used with 13k on it and before then was just Conventional oil then at 19k I switched Mobil 1 tri-syn for 2 changes then all since then has been Mobil 1 SuperSyn with Mobil 1 filter.

I doubt there is any sludge at all....

Why not?

See if it gets my fuel mileage up, i've had a fuel dilution problem, clean up anything in there, might fix my drippy rear main?

BTW guys, here are the filter prices I got:

Regular size filter B34- $4.22
Oversize Filter B2- $3.57
Oversize Filter High-efficeincy but more restrictive: B2-HPG- ~5 dollars

Wix regular size 51085 oil $3.72
Wix Oversize 51515 oil $3.40
Crossover from B2-HPG Wix# 51515R $6.40

Anyone know the what the "R" means on the end of a Wix number? Are these more efficient and more restrictive?

I am using Valucraft oil filters from Auto Zone that were on sale for $1.49 and Supertech oil. After 600 miles on both vehicles doing well and the oil looks very clean. I will let you know if these filters cause a problem.

The "R" stands for RACING. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE THIS SERIES OF FILTERS (black paint)FOR STREET USE APPLICATIONS.

I figured they were a good bit different. Didn't know how but the price difference was almost 2x as much. I guess it is a different kind of "difference" than from a Baldwin B2 to a B2-HPG
heh
