I may do an oil change for a family friend as a favor on a late model Civic. Out of the following dino's in my stock, which should I use to get rid of first. 5 W 20 Valvolene
Havolene
Castrol
Pennzoil
Opinions????

Havoline is considered the current "sleeper" in terms of cost/value. When I run out of my MC 5w-20 for my "playing" (bought for $0.50/quart when WM closed it out a while back) it will probably be my neo 20 weight of choice for my engines that can use it.

I hate big companies

so I hate them all... but they are all good oils..

I'd get rid of the penzoil first- their close relationship with iffy-lube is enough for me not to support them. I wouldn't want it sitting on my shelf in the garage. lol.

If it was me...

Valvoline would be the one I'd get rid of.

I think the 5w-20 Pennzoil is one of the best 5w-20 oils out there.

Have not seen too many of the Castrol or Halvoline UOAS.

My dads Honda Powered VUE is running Pennzoil 5w-20 and I'll get a UOA next OCI.

He has 2 cases of Castrol 5w-20 that he will be going to after the case of Pennzoil is used up and I'll get a UOA of it too...

Take care, Bill

Thanks, tht is what I was thinking. I have read that Valvolene has a tendancy to burn off or evaporate.

My old VW Jetta with well over 200K miles on it seemed to like nothing but valvoline all climate 20w-50. I tried multiple brands in that car, both synthetic and non synthetic and the valvoline was the only thing that kept the lifters quiet, especially on cold mornings.

It never/still never burns a drop of oil. Sometimes i think oils are like people. Some work well with certain cars and not with others. Thena gain, the jetta 1.8 was a single OHC 8 valve, not a double, so that may have played a role in it.

My newer '01 mazda 626 v6 seems to like everything i put in it. However it does tend to burn off 5w30 quicker than 10w30.
