which auto parts store?

I hate when I go to AutoZone and the idiot doesn't scan my 'reward card'....

so basically I have to get the store manager to refund my cash....so I can repurchase my items and get the points added to my AutoZone card.

O'Rileys is my favorite; unfortunatly there's not one very close to here. So it's between Advance, AZ, and Napa for me. I really don't have a preference between the three (cept for filters from Napa); AZ does do free code scanning if I need it. Comes down to individual part price/quality; since the advice from the guy behind the counter is rarely worth a #@$%!

It has got to be local luck of the draw. On my side of town here I prefer the AAP. Their store is well lit and not cramped, and the people (if they're not spending ten minutes on the phone) just do their job.

The AZ (which is closest to me) is so-so. The NAPA had snob (excuse my judgement) working behind the counter when I went there, so it's down on my list. O'Reilly folks are polite and helpful, but the store is small and dingy. Carquest is a bit far so I've only been there once, but their people seemed helpful enough if I could get their attention and knew what I was talking about -- they seemed to be focused on their business customers instead of regular walk-ins.

It goes both ways. I havent met one person in new jersey who likes newyork, except for a day visit. In my personal experience, everybody is rude, pushy, it's too dirty, smells bad, all the shops are overpriced, and there's too much traffic.

During the summer the streets here are packed with new york cars, all vacationing here, and not a single one of them can drive. No lie, they all speed, tailgate, honk outside of their friends houses to get their attention, block the roads to have conversations with eachother in their cars, and they all have a superiority complex and think money is the almighty solution to everything.

Now you might be thinking that im wrong, because my only experience is with new york city. I see you live in oneida county, very north from new york city, and a very nice place to live I bet. It's the same as when new yorkers come into NJ, the first thing they see are refineries and factories and think NJ is dirty, when really you go into central jersey and south jersey and it's all green. My 40 mile commute to school every day is 30 miles of nothing but highway boxed in by forest and farms on both sides.

And anyway teaneck is a suburb of new york. I never go past union county if I can help it.

I prefer NAPA, carquest, or the local independent parts plus dealer. they actually pay their employees enough to keep the good ones. their parts are usually of good quality.

Forgot to mention that, every NAPA i've been to, they've been very helpful and they have the best quality parts, only reason I don't use them is because their inventory sits on the shelf for extended periods of times, and they're expencive! Maybe it varies from region but the ones i've been to have all been the same. They seem like more of a supplier store.

I like NAPA based on the previously mentioned quality of their parts, and the guys there are very helpful locally. I have had too many AZ house branded parts go out early on me (serpentine belts, brake pads, etc.) and AAP is too far away. I had a similar incident at AZ where an old guy was cussing up a storm about scanning my reward card, so I don't frequent them anymore. The local NAPA is a little more expensive, but I feel like I get my money's worth on the parts I buy there. My local AAP would be a close second based on helpfulness, price and quality, but it costs more in gas to get there than going to NAPA and paying the price difference for the parts.

I usually shop at Schuck's depending on what I need (prices are pretty good); as far as service goes, however, IMO NAPA is awfully tough to beat. At NAPA you stand a MUCH greater chance of obtaining the correct part you're looking for than a lot of other places, including Schuck's.

I miss Al's Auto Supply- they were a small chain swallowed up by the CSK behemoth.
