I'm hoping to get some feed back with this oil related question. I have a 2002 F350 4x4 7.3 Power Stroke diesel. I have 44,000 on the clock and change the oil/oil filter every 5000 miles using Motor Craft 15w40 oil and the Motor Craft oil filter. I have no issues or complaints with the MC oil /oil filter. If I were to choose between the following dino 15w40 diesel oil which would be the best quality choice?

Motor Craft 15w40, Delo 15w40 or Shell Rotella T 15w40. Are there any Power Stroke owners running these oils?

Thanks

Thanks KJA426, I have heard positive things about Delo 400. I've heard some say it has a great additive pkg, which is important to the Power Stroke diesel. I was wondering if any Power Stroke owners were having any issues with the Rotella T?

Thanks
Ruby

I run a Cummins which is easy on oil. Of the three, I would choose Delo, Delvac and Rotella in that order. That said, I wouldn't loose any sleep if I had Rotella in the crankcase, but would feel on top of the world with some Schaeffers.

Schaeffers 15w-40 will work out great, the newer 10w-30 is now diesel approved also,,,,,or the 5w-40 synt. is a super oil,,,,,check with site sponsor........BL

Get you some Castrol Tection Extra- on sale till end of month for $5 per gallon with a $6 rebate on a 3 gallon case at Advance Auto Parts. That works out to $3 per gallon for a high quality, shear stable 15W-40 diesel oil. Since it is a fairly new offering from Castrol, it doesn't have quite the reputation of the others, but a decent oil so far.

Time to stock up! I've got 7 cases on the shelf.

Havn't you already asked this same question here before?

My answer would be that he Motorcraft & Delo will perform very close to identical but Delo is more easy to come by, so I would use Delo. Persoanlly, I wouldn't use Rotella 15w-40.

You asked this question on 10-22-05 and again on 11-13-05. You got quite a few responses both times YAWN

Do you just keep asking to stay entertained or what?

You sent a response to my question recently (look up a few threads-there you go) now you remember? If you don't know the answer to my again asked question, just say so. If I wanted the answer "buy the one with the prettiest jug" I would not have asked the question to begin with. Hopefully, you must realize some oils perform better than others, it's not the design of the container but the oil inside the container I care about.

Hammer,

I'm not trying to re-ask the same question. I am trying to determine some additional opinions about some oil choices. I'm still on the fence with a few choices. Thanks for your recommendations.

Well with all the crap of running around in a circle over oil that never gets settled, I'll tell you buy the cheapest name brand 15-40 diesel and your ahead of the game. There all good . I use the Rotella 15-40 . And you got vary little recomendation for this oil . I use it because I buy it in 55 gal drum from Sams at about $1.25 qt. And every wally world ,k mart, meijer, auto parts, all truck stops on all freeways, every gas station, they all carry it. Nobody that I'v heard of has ever had any motor problen with any good name brand 15-40 diesel oil ,that they can really blame on the oil. So I say buy the cheapest in your area.

bluepp,

Thanks for the honest feed back. I am not looking for the cheapest 15w40 dino oil, just the best bang for the buck as they say. I have been using the MC Power Stroke diesel 15w40 oil, and have no complaints/ issues but it is getting hard to find in the 1 gallon and 5 quart jugs(except at the dealer). WM sells it for $1.94 per quart, but buying 15 1-quart bottles is not fun. I know the MC 15w40 is blended to meet the needs of the Power Stroke engines regarding anti-foaming issues, which I understand is important for these engines. I was wondering if the Power Stroke owners have any issues with the Rotella T 15w40 oil, and like you stated it is available at many places.

I do know this, over at the flatratetech forums, there was talk about a bulletin from IH that if Shell Rotella 15w-40 And I believe Mobil Delvac-1300 were used in a T444E/powerstroke, that Fleetrite Engine Oil Defoamer should be added. Supposedly the amount of anti-foaming additive in those two oils is less than IH likes for these HEUI motors. The report supposedly said Chevron Delo400 had enough anti-foaming additive to NOT need the defoamer. BTW, the defoamer only cost a little over $3 an bottle. As previously mentioned, I'd stick with MC or Chevron and would lean to Chevron since it is very available.

Hammer,

Your reply is straight forward, thanks for your honesty, I like that. The more research (reading other opinions)I do, many have stated the Delo is a great choice along with the MC. Like you stated the Delo is easier to find. My plan at this point is to stick with the MC as long as the price doesn't get crazy at the dealer. I spoke with a dealer recently who stated he had the jugs for $8. and change, I can live with that. If not I guess my next choice is the Delo.

Thanks

The best oil choice is Schaeffer's 9000 5w-40, IMHO of course. Which is the same stuff Tony says he's gonna switch to. I would have mentioned that prior but you were asking about the specific three.
